lol @ Randy being up there with VH and Jimi.. too fuggen funny, humans, you mean to say VH is almost upthere with Jimi and Jimi is almost up there with Randy? pretty sure that's how it goes, Ed couldn't make it as a boil on Randys arse no two ways about it, Randy taught classical music at the highest level, give that a thought for a minute, and Randy did more than Ed on the 3-4 albums Randy did get to work on, Ed what 12-15 albums? still didn't accomplish instrumentally what Randy did.. not even close let me put it this way, Randy was SRV 5.0. he had the INTENSITY over SRV, the TONE over SRV, the COMPLEXITY over SV and even possesed SRVs most valuable asset, STAMINA, RANDY AN SHRED WITH AS MUCH INTENSITY AS SRV ONLY LONGER, using longer reaches with faster and more complicated licks... this song is a testament to Randy's intensity and stamina, Ed does have a fifth of the stamina as Randy, nor SRV for that matter, fact is there is only one player I know of that ever hit the strings hard as randy and that is SRV, Ed? LOFL.. and I can promise you Randy knew far more about music than Ed or SRV ever dreamed of, Jimi as well..

Good question. Though Randy played with Quiet Riot before he joined Ozzy and EVH didn't release Van Halen debut until 1978. It's possible they both influenced both in a way. You can't deny both guitarists influence.
@Azabaxe802 жыл бұрын
@@matthewdrake4385 What I remember is that Osbourne's first two albums were wildly successful and they had a very consistent sound built around Rhoads' playing. It was very deliberate and up front, and then people like Adrian Vandenberg and Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai (the last two with Alcatrazz) came out of the woodwork with a similar sound very closely after. It is a real shame that Rhoads died so young. Makes you wonder what he would have done. Imagine that guy and Cliff Burton playing together.
@matthewdrake43852 жыл бұрын
Aza, your pretty spot on. Randy was classically trained which put him apart from just about everyone else. I could see how Randy could influence someone like a Steve Vai or Joe Satriani. Malmsteen I totally can't stand. Playing to see how fast you can play doesn't work to my ears. Having some emotion, feeling or flow are what most players have and show that appeal to me. I totally agree about what could have been with Randy, Hendrix, SRV and players like that.

As for not showing much of Randy’s solo - that’s something that was common on music videos so guitarists couldn’t watch it to learn how to play it note-for-note (trying to protect copyright). Watch nearly any vid with a great solo (Living Colout’s Cult Of Personality etc) and they cut from the guitarist a lot. Love the reaction from all three of you guys. Very cool.

Back then bands didn't like showing their guitarists iconic licks. I guess they were thinking "if you like it that much, go buy my record". Kind of like today, some famous guitarists closely guard which effects pedals they use and what sequence they connect them. They don't want their iconic sound to be copied.
@joeminor152 жыл бұрын
Randy was a true teacher. If you notice he is always thrusting his guitar work out in the open for everyone could see what he was doing on the fret board. In contrast, his nemesis at the time (not that Randy even noticed) Eddie Van Halen would very often turn or otherwise conceal what he was doing. Randy however, having grown up in his mother’s music school, was happy to show everyone what he was playing. I think that’s why his style is to really put his guitar front and center. Almost like he is teaching a guitar class and is saying, “Hey, check this shit out!”

Ah Randy...literally my favorite guitarist of all time. Gone way too soon. His art lives on.

This is just a taste of what Randy’s guitar sorcery was like . Live playing was Randy’s best work he always improvised new fills and alternate solos for the same songs frequently

Buddy Guy has a polka dot fender strat. Not many rock the flying V guitar.

I know where this video was made. In the city of Rochester NY. I was born and raised in Rochester. Randy Rhoads is my favorite guitarist. So sad he was taken from us so young. Ozzy is amazing in concert.

If you guys are still reading comments... organs often have two or more keyboards (called "manuals"), as well as pedal keys, with different sounds. In some bands they'll also have keyboards for synth, piano, etc., sometimes stacked, sometimes separate.

The look on Ozzys face, he knew his band was platinum. I cannot believe how long ago this was. Memories.

Randy, who is second only to the great Eddie Van Halen, will be ever be given the credit he so deserves because of his passing so early in his young life. I was fortunate to be able to see him twice live, others will never the talent we lost when he died.

The bass player dressed up like" Mork "is Rudy Sarzo and Ozzy got the ideal of the fringes from after seeing Elvis and much later on a guitarist named Zakk Wild Ozzy's third guitarist would wear the Elvis inspired bell bottoms

This Video was from my local tv station back in the 80's in Rochester, NY before they went out on their tour. They also filmed Crazy Train live. It was a promotional thing Ozzy did. Korn and Metallica also used Rochester to practice for a tour. Luck to be a musician and be around some amazing artist as they passed thru town either opening for them or being backstage. Got to meet some of my musical heroes. Enjoy watching you expand your musical vocabulary, keep the music of any kind alive and never give up playing if you have the passion. Someday you may meet the ones that inspired you.

Also, the Flying V guitar and the Explorer guitars date from the late 1950s. You think Randy’s guitar was something to behold in 1981, imagine how heads turned when guitarists were first playing those guitars 20+ years before that!

I saw Ozzy live 5 times with Randy before his untimely death, he was just brilliant, died far too young RIP Randy.

The V neck matches his polka-dot V guitar perfectly. Randy was a virtuoso of his short lived time . R.I.P
