This is probably the best video clip of this band, but if you want the audio pinnacle, required listening is the 1981 Montreal show that was broadcast on a syndicated radio show called King Biscuit Flour Hour. Randy's solo spot from Suicide Solution was clumsily dubbed into the major label Randy Rhoads Tribute posthumous live album release, and Randy's flamethrowing on the rest of that show is just as devastating (Ozzy didn't have his strongest vocal night in Montreal, hence the dub). There's a chopped-up clip on KZbin, but the whole broadcast is out there, and a worthy goal, for sure. Thank you for your promotion of this and other great music! Be well

Dad knew Randy personally - always said nothing but nice things about his nature and abilities. RIP Legend. Polo - the whole catalog of Ozzy/Randy is fantastic so dive DEEPLY - also note that Ozzy reformed with Black Sabbath in 2013 I believe. The "Rehearsal video" for The Wizard is awesome, you get to see Ozzy playing the harmonica, excellent audio and Geezers black string/black bass, Toni killing the chords as usual - nothing was lost - even the drummer (not Bill Ward) is fantastic. They also had some hits with their new release - God is dead and End of the beginning are true 1000% Black Sabbath hits!

Randy Rhodes formed a band called Quiet Riot, he left that band to join Ozzy. When he came into studio he was hesitant to join Ozzy, we as fans of Ozzy saw and heard something magical, the band was set to play at the Tangerine bowl that weekend in Orlando Florida. I still have the tickets..truly a very sad loss for music, and the future of it

Black Sabbath is where Ozzy started. Most bands credit Sabbath as an influence on their own music. This is Ozzy directly leaving Sabbath, but joining Randy Rhodes. His wife pushed him to keep performing, and not drinking himself to death. Fans knew his voice (you've said in other videos his voice is unmistakable), and so only his death would stop the fame train. Sadly it's the guitarist who dies, Randy matched Tommy from Sabbath and went even further. Many thought Ozzy was making a point that he was the reason for all the glory.

Randy Rhoads is my favorite guitarist ever. This, "Crazy Train" & "Over the Mountain" are my favorite solos. I can only imagine what his classical studies would have brought to the table. Randy's attack on the guitar is legendary! IMO he is the GOAT. There will be no other like him. Tommy Aldridge is the master of staccato style drumming. He pioneered the double bass in the 70s. He is my all-time favorite drummer.

You could hear the growth in his playing from Blizzard of Ozz to Diary of a Madman. If he had moved into playing what he loved (classical) it would have been a treasure to behold. This was filmed in a television studio on April 28, 1981 in Syracuse, New York for the tv show “After Hours” There are 4 other songs from this same show that are on KZbin if you do a search for “Ozzy Osbourne After Hours”. Randy Rhodes died in a horrific plane crash on March 19, 1982. This is the only professionally shot video of Randy playing at a show.

This was done as part of a set of songs for an "After Hours" appearance in NY, 1981. I Don't Know, Crazy Train, Suicide Solution, and Mr Crowley. I would highly recommend listening to the other 3 songs. They are the best, and really only medium to high quality videos of Randy Rhoads playing guitar with Ozzy, and they are all killer live versions. It's a shame to think Randy had barely scratched the surface of his ability with Quiet Riot and Ozzy before his death in 1982.

Ozzy was my first concert ever in life and I actually snuck out of my house to attend with my sister and her friends. When I tell you how influential this band became for me. OMG, I was impressionable and so naive. I was so young and trust me every lick I received when I got home was nothing compared to my taste of this Rock Legend. Randy Rhodes was and is a Guitar God. Randy Rhoda’s grew up in a music school mastering classical guitar. It wasn’t until he was a teenager before he took up electric. He mastered it in a few months. I can’t imagine what he could have accomplished if he had lived. RIP Randy.

Randy grew up with his mother being a classically trained musician and owning a music store where he gave lessons. Growing up in the 70s I was blessed to have been one of his students. The thing that always blows my mind about Randy is his use of the classical music elements in his playing and writing. I mean this is an incredible composition musically. Just amazing. Ozzy Osbourne grew up in Birmingham, England... raised in a working class family... He had psychological issues that left him unable to excel in school and got him bullied as a kid... At 15, he dropped out and worked odd jobs, but ended up in jail for burglary. He had seen The Beatles on TV and decided to try become a singer after his release... His dad went into debt to buy him a P.A. system around 1967 and Ozzy began looking for bands to sing for... Tony Iommi was a local guitarist who knew Ozzy from school, and saw his ad... Iommi was hesitant to work w/ Ozzy cos he thought he was a 'clown'... but Bill Ward (drums) and Geezer Butler (who switched from guitar to bass) liked him and they began working together playing covers at local gigs... the name became Earth... and then Black Sabbath by 1969 (after one of the first original songs they had written)... Ozzy discovered that he had an ear for melody and could give Sabbath's music a delivery like no other. Black Sabbath was signed in 1969 and by 1970, their 2nd album 'Paranoid' was a #1 hit in the UK and platinum record in the US... Money came the band's way, but so did drugs, alcohol, groupies and bad business deals... By 1974, Sabbath discovered that their manager Patrick Meehan had siphoned all the band's earnings and the members were broke... They took a year off the deal w/ lawsuits and tried to manage themselves without success... Don Arden began managing the band in 1975, but Sabbath's sales were declining by 1976... Tony Iommi wanted more 'polished' Sabbath records and Ozzy hated the last 2 albums and briefly quit the band... Sabbath's 1978 tour was a disaster w/ Van Halen opening the shows and blowing the band off the stage every night... Hampered by drugs and alcohol, Sabbath was stuck creatively by 1979... Tony Iommi fired Ozzy Osbourne and wanted to work w/ former Rainbow singer Ronnie James Dio... Ozzy was separated from his first wife and kids, and spent months drinking and doing drugs in L.A. when Don Arden's daughter Sharon Arden came to visit him to collect a loan from Ozzy, but Ozzy's broke... Seeing the singer so lost, Sharon sees an opportunity to break Ozzy away from Sabbath and offers to manage him and find him a solo band. Ozzy was too drunk to recall the auditions, but he heard a guitarist and hired him on the spot... that was guitarist Randy Rhoads from the L.A. band Quiet Riot... Rhoads had recorded 2 albums by Quiet Riot in Japan, but saw no success. Ozzy was floored by Rhoads' guitar skills and the 2 worked on new music w/ a new sound that was far more energetic than Black Sabbath (Randy Rhoads had never heard Black Sabbath)... Rainbow bassist Bob Daisley was brought in and wrote lyrics for Ozzy's melodies... Uriah Heep drummer Lee Kerslake joined the band w/ Rainbow keyboardist Don Airey... the band completed the album 'Blizzard of Ozz' in 1980... but no record companies would sign him. Finally, Epic Records gave Ozzy a contract, and at a meeting, he shocked the company by biting the heads off 2 doves that he brought w/ him...That gave Ozzy infamy and interest in his new music jumped... The band wrote and recorded a 2nd album 'Diary of a Madman' and began touring actively in 1980/ '81... However, money was tight and despite the 2 records selling millions, Ozzy and Sharon saw little money because he was still contractually in debt to his former manager Don Arden while in Black Sabbath... This performance was filmed in the fall of 1981 (?) w/ new members Rudy Sarzo (bass) and Tommy Aldridge (drums) replacing Daisley and Kerslake... One of the few live clips that exist today w/ Randy Rhoads on guitar for Ozzy... Ozzy's shows were selling out and getting bigger by the spring of 1982 and they were booked to play Madison Square Garden at NYC that summer. In the spring of 1982, Randy Rhoads was killed on the tour when he boarded a small engine aircraft for a short flight... it crashed into the tour bus and spun out of control into a house nearby. Ozzy was devastated and thought about quitting, but Sharon was adamant... Randy would not have allowed it. Eventually, the tour resumed and Brad Gillis (guitar) was brought in. Ozzy and Sharon married in the summer of 1982 and spent years on a tour bus because both were broke and Sharon had left her father's employ... They had a daughter Aimee on the road. In 1983, Ozzy had a new guitarist Jake E. Lee and a 3rd studio album 'Bark at the Moon'... another platinum success... Finally free of his old Sabbath contracts, Ozzy spent 1984 on a massive tour w/ Motley Crue... it was, by all accounts, madness on wheels w/ alcohol and drugs aplenty. Black Sabbath (the original w/ Ozzy) reunited for a set at Live Aid in 1985, but Don Arden sued to stop that performance. Ozzy released 'The ultimate sin' in 1986 w/ Phil Soussan on bass and Randy Castillo on drums... but despite the success, he found himself sued in court for allegedly 'inspiring' a teen's suicide w/ his song 'Suicide solution'... He was able to beat the suits on his 1st Amendment grounds... He spent 1986 on tour w/ Metallica opening as his career now eclipsed Black Sabbath's commercially. In 1988, Zakk Wylde (guitar) joined Ozzy's band and the 2 became a tight duo (Zakk eventually found his own success w/ his band Black Label Society in the 2000's to today and has been touring as the guitarist of Pantera in 2022/ '23) and recorded 2 massive Ozzy albums - 'No rest for the wicked' (1988) and 'No more tears' (1991)... In 1989, he and Sharon separated after he tried to strangle her after a blackout on booze and pills... She eventually took him back, but he admitted that cocaine was still a problem... In 1991, Ozzy claimed he had reached his limit during a binge in Vegas and had quit using the drug since then... he still struggled w/ alcoholism well into the 2000's. Even in the 90's w/ metal being discarded for 'alternative rock'... Ozzy still sold platinum in 1995 w/ the 'Ozzmosis' album. In 1996, he and Sharon founded the Ozzfest tour that single-handedly brought back heavy metal to the masses over a decade... The original Black Sabbath finally reunited in 1997 and was a huge success. Ozzy's TV career launched in 2001 on MTV as he was promoting his album 'Down to Earth'... his rather dysfunctional family became stars themselves... Ozzy still recorded successful albums despite falling CD sales... 'Black rain' in 2007... 'Scream' in 2010... Black Sabbath recorded the album '13' in 2013 and it charted at #1... but they decided to end Sabbath's career in 2017 w/ a final tour. Ozzy returned w/ new music - 'Ordinary man' (2020) and 'Patient Number 9' in 2022... His touring plans seem to be over because of health issues, but Ozzy has announced performances coming soon.

I saw him twice live. He's a very fun wild man. He loved to pick up a bucket of water and throw it out into the crowd. Except it was confetti. He was amused with himself, and he loved his fans. That came through.

I was 14 when Randy died March 19, 1982. I remember hearing it on the radio. My friends and I had tickets for his show in April that we returned, I wish I'd saved that ticket. Four decades later if you mention RR I suspect 7/8 of people would recognize the name!

Ozzy has always been my favorite. My first three albums were Paranoid, Master of Reality, then Blizzard of Oz. This was junior high and high school for me. I'm 57 and still love it!! Do a reaction to "After Forever"..
