Yea he did say something like that, he played it live together with the original Drummer Cozy Powell. I do not agree with Brian since probably everything he had done with Queen and especially his solo song Resurrection is better than since you been gone, also anything with Dio in Rainbow was also better (Kill the King for example). Its a weird statement by Bri.

@@ben1ben From a music perspective it is perfect in a sense. The chord progression, the intervals, the structure of the song all just screams rock song. So maybe in that sense he meant it is perfect. There is no fat on the song, plenty of hooks that are simple and easy to remember. Super relatable lyrics and great vocal harmonies, all hallmarks of 70s rock but rarely done this well. When you make music you have a great appreciation for songs like this that are simple yet perfect, it is really hard to just write a song like this.

Rainbow was Ritchie Blackmore's baby and Ritchie is famous for his "difficult" persona. He was a small dictator, a serious prankster famous for his outbursts. The singer in the clip is Graham Bonnet, Ritchie's personal choice as the replacement of Dio. There is a funny video on KZbin on which Ritchie talking about Bonnet saying that Rainbow were about to start their first tour with Graham as their lead singer and as he had his hair short Ritchie told him that their fans expected him to wear his hair long having a kind of "dirty" look and asked him to let his hair grow in those 3 months before their opening gig at Newcastle. Graham on the other hand was threating him that he was going to cut it really short. So Ritchie put a guy next to his room and asked him to look over him. But Graham left the room through the window and got his hair cut. Richie says and i quote : "On stage that night i was seriously contemplating hitting him over the head with my guitar" Of course he only lasted for 1 year. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYm6ZIWhbdqggrs

As a beginning musician in the mid to late 70’s this collection of musicians was vitally important to my development, and not just as a musician. I can distinctly remember spending an entire year at 14 years old striving to look like drummer Cozy Powell, medium length black hair with fringe, traditional grip, playing metal, satin tour jacket, sky blue and silver, with sleeves rolled up. Holding EVERYBODY to my perceived excellence ala Ritchie Blackmore. Trying to be an all around good guy like Roger G and Don Airy.

Love Catch the Rainbow......but the live version from the 1977 Munich concert is at another level. Richie's solo is incredible.

And t here is the Stank Face. Hell yeah Graham Bonnet. Fantastic singer. The Journeyman singer. worked with so many groups over the years. Rainbow Rocks. So much talent on stage gotta check out "All Night Long" It's kind of the next step on the Rainbow ride. then you can catch a ride the Michael Schenker Group. {sidenote, if you go down this road. You will find the Scorpions}

The Graham Bonnet era of Rainbow is so underrated. But many know rainbow for Ronnie James Dio

Graham had his own style of great singing. He also did some great work with the band Alcatrazz and the amazing guitarists Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai both in the early years.

@Jeff Tighe Yeah, there’s a great video on KZbin of their Japan concert in 1983, plus he did a great album with Chris Impellitteri, he has sure worked with some amazing guitarists in his career.

The singer here also did the Deep Purple album "Slaves and Masters" with Blackmore. Song for song, that album is fantastic start to finish.

I think Graham Bonnet really liked "Since You've Been Gone". Aside from doing a studio version with Rainbow, there's a live version on Alcatrazz's Live Sentence album. Then Graham did another studio version on Impellitteri's Stand In Line album. Speaking of Alcatrazz, one you should check out is "God Blessed Video". Graham Bonnet on vocals with Steve Vai on guitar. This was before Steve joined David Lee Roth.

This song was written by Russ Ballard who was originally in Unit 4+2,then Argent! He’s wrote so many classic songs between the mid 60’s to the present! And so many great Artists have covered his songs! Ballard recorded this in 1975 on the winning album,his is more keyboard heavy!

It has been said that Ritchie Blackmore, the lead guitarist, has worked with half the musicians in the world in all the iterations of his bands.

This is Blackmore's band. When Deep Purple broke up, Ritchie still had guitar chops. Dave Coverdale, DP singer, to form White Snake. Ian Paice, DP's drummer, remained the only original member of the band to play under that band. Paice's drumming is awesome. He is ranked up there with John Bonham and Ginger Baker.
