English Lyrics: René, come over, let's study Yes, I'm going to ask you a question, and you'll answer it: With which part of the body did the Taíno Indians play ball? René, answer me, It's actually easy Pay attention to me, pay attention to me, look at me With which part of the body -think about it- did the Taíno Indians play ball? I know! I'll sing it to you and you'll be learning as I sing Head, knees, thighs and hip Head, knees, thighs and hip Head, knees, thighs and hip Head, knees, thighs and- Since I was little I wanted to be a baseball player, I didn't make it So I learned to make hits over a track I started drinking alcohol in my office again I write good when I'm sober, but I write better when I’m drunk When I fall into depression, I tell my problems to the plane's window Stress has got me sick, I haven't slept in ten years The IRS is still investigating me And I'm going through divorce, but it doesn't matter, I'm still rhyming I make mistakes, but I do the best I can I learned to land without any wheels, and Despite that people recognize me in the streets, not even my friends know me any more. I'm sad and I laugh The concert is full, but I'm empty In the music industry, everything's a lie My son's got to eat, so I'm still touring I'm just left with what I've got, I don't know where I'm going, but I know where I come from I grew up with Christopher, my friend We threw stones together and broke a pair of windows We used to run shirtless in the streets in the neighborhood of Trujillo, while riding bikes downhill The bike over the mud, with a plastic cup in the wheel's rim so it sounded like a car We used to get refueled with Malta India and garlic bread, nobody would stop us We were inseparable until one day he was killed by four cops My joy is still broken, the lights went out in the ballpark There's almost no one left here Sometimes I don't want to be here I feel alone here In the middle of the party, I want to be where nobody bothers me To burn my notebook, let go of my backpacks I want to call 7-5-5-0-8-2-2, just to see who answers The fights with my stepfather, when he lost control I used to solve them watching a baseball game together with him He invited me to fistfights a couple of times I sneaked out of home a couple of times But the food was never absent, he defended us with music, singing in weddings Sometimes baked, sometimes canned and microwaved We used to share it all, the table was round Middle-to-lower class, we never were owners The bank loans robbed our dream The savings account was empty, but mom would brighten our days by dancing flamenco She stopped acting just to take care of us four And we became her stage play She walked in our boots, and her life was made of our achievements and defeats, My stepfather left, with other fishes (people) We moved out of Calle 13 I left home to search for luck in haystack, and I packed my whole life in a box I received a bachelor of arts in the university They killed half of my friends I started to rap again, started to believe again I came back, released an album, ate the world in one bite In Puerto Rico they fired employees, I insulted the governor and it was televised They censored four years of my calendar Grandma died. She didn't see me play in the stadium I said everything I felt, they love me more outside than inside my own country But even if my songs are sung by a German guy I want to be buried in my old San Juan I may hide my sorrow, but I'm made of rice and pigeon peas And it hurts, it doesn't matter if the morning rum consoles me And from deep inside me, if I ever fucked up, I dedicate four floors of apologies to my country There's almost no one left here Sometimes I don't want to be here I feel alone here In the middle of the party, I want to be where nobody bothers me To burn my notebook, let go of my backpacks I want to call 7-5-5-0-8-2-2, just to see who answers And if they answer me, I want to tell them that I want to come back That I want to get out of this hotel and disappear And if they answer me, I want to tell them that I want to pull the curtains And that sometimes my blood pressure rises, and I'm scared that my plane falls down That I don't care about the tours, the albums, the Grammys And that I want to see Halley’s Comet again with mommy on the 11th Street I want to go back to when my windows were sunny, and the warmness would wake me up To when they called me out to play, to when I rapped without getting paid I want to get the baseball cards out of the box, go back to steal second base again In the summer and Christmas, to clean the house with my brothers while listening to Rubén Blades I want to return, go to the movies on the weekdays and get to art school next morning I want to stay there. I don't want to get out of there I want to go back to when they wouldn't let me in because I was badly dressed I want to feel again, when I didn't have to pretend I... want to be Me again Head, knees, thighs and hip Head, knees, thighs and hip Head, knees, thighs and hip Head, knees, thighs and hip Head, knees, thighs and hip Head, knees, thighs and hip Head, knees, thighs and hip Head, knees, thighs and hip

Calle 13 has 4 American Grammys & 24 Latin Grammys but he is heavily censored on the island. We who are older know how to find him despite his local Blacklisting.
@sketchtherapy12184 жыл бұрын
On this island we are (metaphorically) bathed in blood and dressed in white. We have never warred under our own flag, We have that fire to fight though, be it with carnal or spiritual weapons and this one here he uses spiritual weapons. The words on his lips are a double-edged sword that cuts them on the left & the right so he is censored & blacklisted.

In an interview, Residente said that he has ADHD and that when he was a kid, his mom helped him remember academic concepts by singing the material because it was so hard for him to concentrate and study. In the beginning of the song, his mom is talking to Rene when he was a kid. It seems as though is a sweet memory that stayed with him forever. The mom is asking him to come over and quizzes him "with what part of the body the Taino Indians played ball?" He couldn't answer and she starts signing it to him to help him remember. "Head, knees, hips, and thighs." Such a powerful song.

Beautiful sentimental song. My favorite part of it is when he talks about missing cleaning the house with his siblings while listening to music. That really hit home for me. My mom would play Selena for me and my sisters and put us to clean lol. Now we are all married and live in our own places with our own lives and different countries even. Those are memories I now treasure of all of us together. Those were the days ❤️

I've seen him twice in concert, have all his albums, his brother's projects too (Visitante). This song hit me so hard. I took my brother and sister to see Calle 13 after my brother came home from a 8 year bid. He was a huge fan too. I lost my brother 2 years ago and I remember when we lived in PR as a kid. He's talking about so many things that people growing up in PR can relate to. It's very emotional for me. We all can just think back to a moment in time where even though it may have been rough but looking back it was the happiest times of our lives. Those moments are lost forever and only live in our hearts. Bitter sweet nostalgia.

As a language teacher and a bilingual person, I find it amazing how music goes beyond the language. What I like the most about reaction videos is watching people feeling even if they don't know everything the singer is saying to them. That's powerful, right there

Hey Jamel this is a song telling about his struggle in life. He lost his best friend, four policeman killed him. I wish the translation was better so you could have a better understanding or meaning of some of the lyrics, they change in translation like when he's metaphorically speaking.

This song gives me all the feels. I love Residente and hate that he went through all this. I used to blast his music from Calle 13 when I was a teen. It got me through some times, I used music as an escape. This really breaks my heart for him.

Jamal: I am Argentine. If you spoke Spanish you would be crying as all of us who speak Spanish have done and listen to it directly. It is very deep and not only because he talk about him self, but because I think we have all felt like this at some time. I send you a big hug from Salta, Argentina.

I recommend you watch the documentary "DNA" that made residente, you can find it here on youtube (and no problem where you won't understand it because it's in English)

Residente the best from Latinoamerica man. So happy you reacted to this. Watching from Argentina. If you ever want to react to something more up beat from residente, the song "pecador" is really good.

She is asking him if he knows what part of the body did our native ancestors used to hit the ball with, our ancestors used to play a type of ball game, Maya called pitz, tainos used to call it batey and the aztec used to call it ōllamalitzli, there are still over 1300 ball courts all throughout the region and it was played for thousands of years before the spaniards got a hold of the land.
