Looks like there's another cheap knock off carburetor on the market. Is it just as awful as the other one we reviewed? We'll find out when we tear this down and pick it apart, measure it and compare it to the ACTUAL Edelbrock carburetor.

Right now Slant Daily Garage is running it on his slant 6! He’s got a couple videos on it. It will probably be spring time before I get around to it on the GMC and likely late next year before the 950 (when it’s released) goes on the Chevelle. Haven’t had any time to get all the other content knocked out first!

Absolutely love the Quadrajet. I don’t use them anymore and quit rebuilding them years ago. They require a lot of time and knowledge to rebuild and tune. I’ve got all my notes on them from 30+ years ago but lost interest in them. I did a tear down video a few years ago. I might do an assembly video sometime. Gotta blow the dust off the cobwebs first. 😆

I’ve heard the results and like I said in the video, they were described as erratic. I made mention in another comment, I’m hesitant to give them any more attention and I’m not paying for dyno time to discredit it! I might slap one on the GMC and monitor AFR. I’m guessing it will be what was seen on the other. And given there’s no way to tune it, kind of hard to put it through its paces. Total fail.

Request --> a 20 minute video on "the evolution of the Edelbrock Performer (aka EPS) and related (AVS) carburetors" as told from a business perspective. Who/what/when invented it, how Carter came to be, prospered, and then what happened to them that made them dissolve / sell off the business / or whatever happened? How Edelbrock started out (performance parts in general is what I found on Wikipedia a while back - not necessarily carbs), at what point then absorbed the AFB carb product, what type of changes they made to not only the product but the factory/manufacturing process. Who the heck is Magnetti Marelli, what's their relation to Weber? And why do AFB's / Edelbrock units all say Weber on them? Make it all make sense! :) The history is as interesting as the tech.
@MuscleCarSolutions
@MuscleCarSolutions 9 ай бұрын
I could do that. But to satisfy some of those questions right away. Weber held that manufacturing process for quite a number of years. So when they updated the tooling, they of course included their logo. When Magnetti Marelli bought it, and the tooling needed to be replaced, on went their logo! And finally when Edelbrock bought the manufacturing facility and the tooling needed to be replaced…..now it’s got the Edelbrock logo. Maybe we’ll dive deeper into the topic. Glad someone else likes the history side as well. 😃

I wanted to try it because we have used a lot of the Chinese small engine carbs with good luck but this one is JUNK.
@MuscleCarSolutions
@MuscleCarSolutions 10 ай бұрын
Kind of hard to adjust when they offer no calibration support in hardware or tech help. Surging should be a common issue with these. As we noted when the boosters and bore sizes aren’t optimal, it’s going to hunt for fuel based on the signal the intake is giving it. Just doesn’t know how to respond because all they did was try to knock it off and I’ll go out on a limb and say zero development testing.

The sight glass for float level is handy because without a fuel pressure regulator, you get what you get out of your pump. Higher pressure will result in a higher fuel level, even if you set the floats up right as the pressure will overcome the floats resistance to a certain degree.
@MuscleCarSolutions
@MuscleCarSolutions 10 ай бұрын
Then the correct fix is to get a regulator and give yourself the ability to control that pressure. Like I mentioned in the video. One of the beauties of the design is no gaskets below the fuel line. Introducing two giant holes at the fuel line and having a horrible way to seal it up takes that benefit away. With a better o-ring and gasket and a better sight glass, I can see at least sealing. But little to no benefit.
@stuckinmygarage6220
@stuckinmygarage6220 10 ай бұрын
I understand the novelty of the sight hole. But that's what it is: a new potential leak spot. Set the floats right. Get the regulator . Now, drive with 100% confidence down the road. Feels better 👍

@vincespinelli6476
@vincespinelli6476 9 ай бұрын
@@MuscleCarSolutions these knockoffs are an absolute tragedy. A brand new 1406 (a real one) is about $400 today. Add a $50 strip/tuning kit with springs / jets / etc, and maybe another $25 if you have to buy some secondary jets - so you're at about $500 shipped to your door. Now that carb - the real one - combined with an afternoon of tuning in your garage / driveway (thanks to the DETAILED manual / tuning guide, and the great instructional videos such as those by @MuscleCarSolutions and @UncleTonysGarage), and you've got a RELIABLE and WELL MADE carb that's going to last the life of your vehicle. ... or you can buy one of these s***box knockoffs for about half of that, at which point the problems and damage caused by it will render your vehicle inoperable and your blood pressure off the chart.

A retailer returned it to Edelbrock as a warranty. Meaning, some loser bought the knock off, realized it was garbage so they bought an Edelbrock carb and stuck the knock off into the box and gave it back to the retailer and got their money back.
