I'm not a target for your demo, but your advice is really applicable across various industries (eg. replace Goldman w/ Google for Tech). Any position that requires a lot of human interaction, deep technical/domain knowledge, and will most likely be a lot of work but open other opps. Great video!

You crushed it John! Happy to see you back on YT. I thought your comment about just being human in your interviews is so important and often overlooked. I always say in my videos that both people in an interview want the conversation to go well. No interviewer (hopefully) goes into it wanting the conversation to be awkward. When you remember this it’s so much easier to build rapport and make that connection! Great tips! Although I’d have to say as someone at JPM that Goldman doesn’t ALWAYSSS get the best deals😉

I really hate it when recruiters says that shit. Of course interviewers want the conversation to go well, but not for the sake of the interviewee, but for the sake of the position being filled. The interviewee has much more at stake here, and anyone saying they are looking foward to this situation or they are having a good time as well either have the rare privilege of not NEEDING the job or they are lying to themselves.
@JK-vc7ie Жыл бұрын
That's not really true. More than a few interviewers intentionally try to make the situation uncomfortable.

The experience in Investment bank really depends on department and personality, most are good at corporates, especially in IBD. If someone wants to control own future, such as trading, then it is a totally different story, someone is really a born top trader. IB is more of a sell side job, and not much about take risks and get rewards

@archkender Жыл бұрын
Great video! Though i am not in your particular industry, i think you bring up really good points on how to interview successfully and land a job. I've worked as a management consultant over 15 years and the points you bring up are very valuable, even when you have been in the job for many years: - Always have your technical skills current and strong. Genuine understanding and application of the skills are what you need to try and achieve as you transition from an academic setting to a work/professional environment. Unlike your particular area in finance, consulting pitches you against many clients who work in your subject matter, but have a varying degree of understanding. Being able to understand a topic means you are able to articulate your advice to a crowd with varying degrees of technical skills. Be confident but be careful that you don't come off as condescending. The little old ladies who have worked in the job for 30+ years hold considerable sway in the organization! - Be human: even if you are an introvert, you can learn to be sociable. It'll may make you exhausted, but is a skill that can be learned and improved upon over time. Clients and employers appreciate someone who can hold a room and avert crisis when they always arise. It also goes without saying that you really need to keep a positive outlook on things. - Cold email/calls: Guess what? At some point, you will have to reach out to people you don't know. Even as you move up the ranks, you will need to reach out to other folks including executive sponsors and C-level individuals as you run your projects. As you become more successful, you will likely be pulled into a sales-support role. Knowing how to be an asset and assist in these efforts are very important to your career growth Great video once again. Subscribed!

And kudos on your positivity. This is THE key to success: a genuine desire to reframe things as positive even though it may be painful at the time you go through it. Though you should be confident in the decisions you made at the time, there is always room for improvement.

Absolutely love your content John! I think establishing your identity FIRST through introductory content that gives context to your channel would help viewers who stumble across your channel (and not via Tik Tok). Only after then if you expand and segment into different content streams (ie banking, starting a start up, etc), I think it would greatly help viewers have a clearer and more linear understanding of you and your story.
