The Content Thief | What Really Happened To Remi Gaillard? - Feat Dom Joly

Remi Gaillard is one of the founding fathers or comedy on the internet and with 3 billion views across all his social platforms, he is the most viewed comedian on the internet. With legendary videos like Pac-man and Mario Kart, Remi is loved by a huge part of KZbin.
However there is strong evidence to suggest that some of Remi's content may not have been as original as we all thought. With heavy accusations of plagiarism aimed at him, this documentary aims to take a look into his career and whether he is truly guilty of stealing content.

A bunch of these "stolen" ideas are on every prank channel. Half of them only share the same title and arnt actually the same prank. Also the ones he "stole" were faked the first time around so is it actually bad that hes redoing them funnier. literally every other youtube channel "stole" some of his more ideas way before he "stole" anything. It's a rank to they're meant to be shared, it's not the first person to hide behind something to scare someone has dibs on that prank.

You could be putting in the work and you’re feeling that it might not be going anywhere then you have someone doing exactly what you just did and they’re making money off of it. Also how would you possibly know if any of his videos was his ideas? You wouldn’t because if he wouldn’t admit to it when he was caught then he definitely wouldn’t admit to it now.

@@saucedup_jayy1156 taking a concept/idea and recreating it isn't stealing. Ideas are just ideas, not content. TV stations do this as they broadcast the same kind of shows, circus acrobats do the same tricks, gaming companies explore the same kinds of games, horror movies use the same formulas, musicians use the same techniques, play the same genres, etc. The idea of stopping traffic dressed as a snail, is just that. You cannot patent it or copyright it. And that's a good thing, or else we would almost never get the best entertainment. You never know where your favorite comedian gets his jokes from. It would be reprehensible if Remi had claimed he invented those concepts, but he never did that. Not that I know of.

Great editing skills, really impressed, I feel your talent should be used on greater subjects ; ) On the topic, you are missing the most important point : in 2001, there was a french TV show called "Morning Live" (it was airing every morning on M6), the host was Michaël Youn (ironically when you show the CopyComic videos, he's just next to Rémi's), and Rémi left him a tape to show him some prank ideas in hopes he would get the job. Michaël never called him back and stole him all of his ideas and persona. At the time, in 2001, I really loved Michaël's ideas and craziness, but it really turns out he copied Rémi 100%. It wasn't just the ideas, but really the persona as well. Rémi eventually got his revenge years later by trashing a live performance from Michaël. This led Rémi to develop a strong content, if not hatred, for the medias (it has taken bigger proportions over the last year, I have followed him closely and I wish I was a citizen of his city to vote for him as he's very vocal about the corruption of a lot of politics, even right down to their face, I really admire his courage), and that could explain why he chose to steal ideas as well since he was robbed of his own ideas right down to his persona. Rémi didn't wait for CopyComic to expose Michaël Youn, he was already vocal about this in the 2000's, and wasn't heard properly. People from the medias are more protected than a "random" guy on the internet. To this day, a lot of people ignore this story, including you apparently (but you aren't to blame, this information is buried). I also don't think the fact Rémi got exposed has anything to do with his uploads. He shifted from being strictly an entertainer to doing bigger things before 2017. Aslo, I think the rarer uploads is because an ex-girlfriend of his left him. He was evoking the subject in an interview that didn't get a lot of views, he felt genuinely depressed. So my take is that he wants to show her he isn't just that guy who does stupid pranks. And he probably gets to an age where he feels he wants to serve the country and protect the animals and nature instead of just entertaining people on KZbin. As he stated, the money he made with KZbin (and still does) allowed him to buy a house. He should really be applauded for what he does, you are really missing the bigger picture and lacking on several important informations. Then again, great editing skills, I encourage you to continue and cover greater subjects ; )

Here's a free idea for Remi, also fairly cheap to produce: 1. Walk into a starbucks or a library with a laptop (have setup a huge pair of Bose or Sonos speakers connected to your laptop by bluetooth). Order your drink, sit down quietly. Open your laptpop prepare to work by putting a motorcycle helmet on and start frentic typing at the the same time the annoying song Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue plays. See what happens. Record peoples reactions. If someone approaches you, complain explaining you are working. You could also put a sign. "Do not disturb" and point to it with you hand. You could picture this idea better if you go and listen to the song. Its a very distrupting intro. You could also play the prank without a helmet just using some Bose or Sony headphones. They will pause the song automatically if you take them off. That way you can pretend you are just listening in your private realm. If someone pokes you when you take off the headphones will pause the song you can complain to them put the headphones again, the disturbing song continues, etc. It will require a little rehersal but it can be done fairly cheap.

Awesome mate! I am French and I prefer Rémi Gaillard as an activist. I just would like to bring something up which is very important! Copy-Comic which is the best thing that happened to KZbin France as they put an end to all those thieves artists/ imposters - they are talentless, really. The author if this channel face constant death threats and also threads for legal actions. Their lawyers asked Twitter and KZbin for Copy-Comic’s identity and so far they remained silent. Plagiarism is something normal for French rappers/ standup comedians and KZbinrs, good thing they get exposed.

Fun fact: in Montpellier 2020's town election, Rémi Gaillard ran for mayor and got a pretty decent score

So what if Remi plagiarized the content, now-a-days, everyone plagiarises the contents from social experiments to pranks so there is no need to make something like prank to a controversy factor it is definitely idiotic to do so

Lol the whole "let's colab" together weeks before he was exposed is proper manipulative. What a shame as before he wasn't too bad but that was a poor move. And the pretending he doesn't know who he is when he dm'd him. 🙄

you got a sub, the quality of this content is just absurd. i was just curious about remi's story since i've been seeing this guy for years and now he also created a tiktok and i was like "damn why is this guy everywhere?" then I googled "what is wrong with remi gaillard" and this majestic video shows up.

Truth is, dozens, maybe even hundreds of content creators yoink ideas from each other, and recreate them for their local community. And thanks to that theft, i've seen many jokes and pranks, i wouldn't see because i'd never hear about the other creators

Damn, never knew of this. He's definitely wrong in this aspect, but I think the execution of both pranksters were very much different. Remi's style is what differentiates him from others. A same idea can have very different outcomes depending on who executes them.

The accusations of plagiarism/theft are false, though. The key thing to realize here, is that taking a *concept/idea* and recreating it, is very different from copying a comedy script and calling it your own. Instead, this is equivalent to, for example, circus acrobats doing the same tricks, or different TV stations doing the same kind of shows, or even similar comedy skits, or video game companies in the 90s doing similar FPS games. Remi used Dom's concepts, but not Dom's content. It wasn't even "shot for shot" as Dom stated. Some look more alike than others, but it's clear that Remi added his own spin to them. But... again, he took concepts, ideas, and recreated them. It's not plagiarism. And like he said, everybody is doing it all the time. Even today, other prank channels are all doing the same pranks.
