At the time of the initial announcement of the US national team the selection of Kawhi was quite sensible. He wasn't injured and was a top 5 MVP candidate. But since he is cannot play due to injury and if you are replacing a wing star player then the first option should be Jaylen Brown. Some people said that the decision for Derrick White was the fact that the team needs another ball handler. I would disagree with this as Lebron, Haliburton and Jrue will be the PGs/primary ball handlers. Therefore, selecting Derrick White to replace Kawhi does not make sense in my opinion and the explanation that Grant Hill gave wasn't convincing.
