Always glad to see David Lee come by and share his Ferraris. He seems like a down to earth guy like Jay. So refreshing to see guys like this that love cars, have the means to own some incredible cars but don't have the egos of people who just buy expensive cars as a status symbol. The F50 is just an amazing machine and I think is appreciated much more now that when it first came out.

I've posted this on Tyrrell's Classic Workshop as well; just a little piece of trivia. Like the F40; the engine cover of the F50 was made out of Lexan. The only company in Italy that pioneered the thermoforming of polycarbonates and able to cast the engine cover happens to be in my home town in northern Italy. It's called Liras and is still in business. I strongly believe they still have the original mouldings somewhere at the factory.

I saw my first F50 in person back in ~95-96 when I was working as a menial laborer at UPS (while in college) and had a good friend who worked his day job taking care of the car garage of the largest car dealer in our area. He somehow snuck us in to see the car collection (worth 10 mil back then). His job was to maintain of all those cars and we pretty much just gawked at that F50. It was shocking, carbon fiber just didn't exist and we kept playing with the gas cap because it weighed about as much as a paper clip. What an absolute dream job and man... that car back then was like looking at a new Saturn 5 rocket.

It was the 1995 Christmas...my uncle's family were visiting from Italy, my uncle was a truck driver. They give me this bag, and inside was a plain box with gray and black checker pattern. I didn't even care about it. My uncle was like 'are you sure you don't wanna check it out?' It was the Ferrari F50 inside the checker box, the BBurago toy. I will never forget the feeling. I still have the car.

These are two amazing men. I cannot thank them enough for providing this content for posterity. As a 30 year Ferrari driver, I feel blessed to see the F50 like this. Mr. Lee surprisingly didn't mention the reason behind the 349 production number. Luca Cordero di Montezemolo (then President of Ferrari) declared Ferrari had a worldwide market for 350 F50s- so they would only produce 349... I'm not sure Mr. Lee will ever own "The Big Ten." The 288 GTO is probably my favorite car of all time, and if my memory serves me correctly, every example was red. I'm not the young man I used to be, and I don't remember exact production numbers as I once did, but I don't think any yellow 288 GTOs were produced. Best wishes to all.

I think Chris Harris did a video some years back, comparing the F40 to the F50 neck-to-neck with a driving session as well, and that really illustrated the different design languages and the corporate background in which the two cars were "conceived". Well worth a watch.

First car to use the engine as a supporting structure in the frame. It was a marriage of engine to composite aluminum honeycomb and a subframe attached to the other end of the engine. The 333SP also utilized this design concept. Ferrari produced this car with the intent of entering it into Le Mans, when they were excluded by the organization they sold the three GT Le Mans prototypes and swore to never race Le Mans again. Instead they directed their energy towards IMSA GT with the 333SP and F1.
