I get the feeling Jay is specifically using these videos as a future preservation tool. One day sadly Jay will be gone, and his cars auctioned off (hopefully on many decades). You KNOW that each of these videos will be played with the car, and will be treasured by the future owner. It's almost like Jay is speaking directly into the future.

As a Brit I have only seen glimpses of his other life as a comedian and talk show host. I'm really impressed with Jay's reverence and respect for the great engineers, designers and renovators who dedicate their lives to creating and restoring these wonderful historic vehicles. Jay comes across as a genuine guy who sees himself as curator and custodian of some of the worlds most coveted vehicles. The result is a very watchable series, like a book I just can't put down!

I watch these videos every week and I see all these negative comments making fun of Jay and making fun of other commenters and it really kind of makes me mad. He doesn't have to share these things with us. It's not like he needs the fame and I bet with production costs this channel is only breaking even. We even get to see things when they don't go perfect. So if you're the kind of person who likes to leave angry comments, do what you got to do. But please take a second to stop appreciate all the hard work Jay’s team goes through so we can appreciate the vehicles and the people who made them.

@ekner
@ekner 8 жыл бұрын
The centre of gravity is probably very similar to a big front wheel drive car, so the suspension would be fine. Think lorry suspension, really heavy duty stuff. As far as the design decision of making it with such a huge overhang... Crash safety would be like if you put an egg on the nose of a brick and drove it around like that, lol :P That's taking into account the materials and design styles of the time. A modern version of that transporter could be as safe as any new lorry if you really wanted to make it.

I'm sure he was cringing from that scrape that they put on the underside of the gullwing, but it was neat seeing him give the "no big deal". That's one of the big reasons why I admire him and his shop and all these videos he shares - he drives and uses his stuff, doesn't just polish and stare at them. That scrape just adds to the patina. Jay, if you're reading this, I just wanted to say how much admiration I have for you. And it's not the usual admiration for a Hollywood star because I really don't have any admiration for any of those people. It's admiration for what a normal, regular person you are despite being a Hollywood star. I admire your love for vehicles, your knowledge of them and the way you present this show. You must have had numerous fights with executives who have wanted to hide the occasional imperfections that crop up (like the scratch in today's episode). These people always want to present a sanitized, squeaky clean image of life, even while presenting a reality show. I want you to know that there are people out there (I am one) who greatly appreciate the fact that you show it like it was filmed..like it occurred. A true reality show. I watch every episode. Keep up the good work. There are very few people I subscribe to on KZbin but I will always be a subscriber to this show. ...a Canadian fan in St. Catharines, Ontario

*As a comedian, an automobile collector, historian & buff, a restorer, the literal 'savior' of automobile of many different types and designs, rare automobiles that would otherwise have been left to decay, or worse, be destroyed. Mr. Leno has done more for our collective automobile history that he should be honored with an award by the combined world's auto manufacturers, (or what's left of them, anyway) And, just for being a regular guy, a good man that happened to make it BIG. However, even though I truly admire and respect Jay for so many and varied reasons... Mr, Leno is really one of the most truly absentminded drivers I've ever seen drive a car! lol. He rarely stays in one lane, always veering off into the next lane! He's a true 'Sunday Driver' lol! People don't think of future values on what seems junk. Heck I see things all the time that I trashed as a kid and it's now worth something. I have a friend in his late 70s that is a real car guy and saved many things but he is really sad to think of when he was a kid how many of those old cars he cut up with a torch for a guy that sold scrap metal. They wouldn't have more than scrap value for 30-50 years. Think about what you throw away today as junk and what it could be worth in 50 years. Then again in 50 years it might still be junk.

This has to be one of the best Jay Leno's Garage episodes ever. While I am not necessarily the someone who is a big Mercedes-Benz fan, that transporter is really, really cool. It is such a shame that Mercedes-Benz didn't see the value of preserving the original one but I am so happy for all the individuals that put their time and money into this replica so that it could be enjoyed an appreciated by those who didn't get a chance to see the original.

One of the advantages of a crummy paint-job. What happened? Nothing, just another sign that his cars are USED instead of stored and not driven! Any car collector should be like him. Drive them, and when needed fix them back up!

I'm impressed by how calm Jay is when he says "hey hold on George the ramp is collapsing" and then, when his Priceless Mercedes is being winched back up and the bottom of it it's coming within a fraction of an inch of contacting the ramp he doesn't say anything, then later he says something like a good thing this one has a crummy paint job or something like that. It must be a really unique feeling to be Jay Leno, a guy who has so many Priceless Mercedes that if he scuffs one of them it's like I know big deal it's all part of the process of enjoying this vehicle

Sir Leno, loved the car loader thank you for sharing it. I was scared every time you opened or closed the engine cover because it looked as if you were going to take out the back of the cab. Did it feel as if you were driving a teeter-totter with the wheels so far back, it looked as if you were bouncing pretty good. Again - thanks for showing us this amazing project It was a pleasure to watch and your love for the carrier showed through.

Jay reminds me so much of my uncle talking about vintage cars. It’s awesome that people like this are out there preserving these classic machines and feats of engineering. If Jay or Sergei weren’t out there putting the work in this would have probably stayed a corgi model or a brick of steel that Mercedes just crushed. Fantastic show.

yea that's exactly my thoughts aswell and sure the restoration aint complete but im sure he didnt like that deep down inside. then again he probably doesnt care too too much about that because he isnt into these things because of the investment potential. he rarely sells cars and the ones he does probably dont interest him anymore. like the VIN # 003 Hemi Challenger (2012 or whatever) he sold at auction. back then you couldnt have the manual at all for the Challenger (how stupid is that). and a while back he sold his F150 Harley Davidson edition. the very first one made and the very first one to have the SVT Lightning package which didnt come in until later in the years of the Harley Davidson editions.

Wow, that front end overhang is extreme. Spoon drains and humps would be a big issue, even with the front air bags up full. Weird that Mercedes made something like that. The way it was bouncing around at street speeds makes 100mph sound rather scary. Interesting vehicle.

Jay Leno doesn't seem like he wants these cars to be museum pieces - he enjoys driving these cars, and generously makes these videos to share. I can't imagine scratching that car, but unless you are going to keep it in a museum behind glass, things like this might happen. Remember when he broke the Doble? That isn't something that Pep Boys has parts for, either.

it would be a good ideal to add a safety cable on the ramp stands, have it go from the ground point and clip to the ramp like 3ft back from the stand. that would keep them from easily collapsing and causing you to damage your car
