I would disagree, and only one aspect with your comment. Jay Leno’s garage videos to have a style all their own. Blending entertainment with pure technical substance is a fine art that Leno’s Garage is wonderful at. @henrykissinger4479 Gotta be fair, Tesla has been putting these two guys (and good guys they are) out in front in so many public discussions. It's a great idea, they both come across as genuinely interested in getting things right. The fact that they highlight the way all the teams work together is a huge part of how Tesla is so efficient. Ford sort of said the same thing when they talked about the stuff they missed out on the Mach-E. Look up the Munro videos where they compared the Model Y to the Mach-E. The cooling system alone was a disaster for Ford in terms of how much it cost them in efficiency. I seriously would not want to own one of those when it gets to be a few years old.

Most American car by location of assembly and parts content. Never once thought of buying an American car before because the Japanese vehicles were just plain superior. Tried a Model 3 and it heavily swayed my opinion of American vehicles. Proud to own an American vehicle now and doing nothing aside from rotating tires and cabin filters is absolutely amazing. I love my rotary powered vehicles, but there's absolutely no replacement for instant torque and power from an EV. It never gets old getting that instant take off from a light. Plus, you can hammer it day in and day out as much as you want and never burn a drop of oil passed the piston rings, fatiguing your transmission, etc. Really is a fantastic performer.

They were just super apathetic towards the car, they called it boring and so on, and you can tell they had to do the review because it was their job but they didn't like the car. Jay Leno in the other hand, has decades of knowledge in cars, he only talks about a car if he is interested in it, and he always aims the reflector in the positive aspects of the cars he reviews, because you can tell he likes them. Other car journalists do more loose pieces, some time they seem a bit forced, many time they have sponsors behind, or poke into this anti ev sentiment for views.

Jay might remember West Street Motors when living in the Merrimack Valley. In 1968 a friend of mine bought a 98 Oldsmobile there and was constantly bringing it back to resolve a hissing noise. Eventually the owner of the dealership took notice and asked him why he was there so often, so he explained about the hissing noise the guys had been getting beat up by and hadn't been able to fix. So the owner pulled the file on the car and started going through the laundry list which started with the muffler, resonator going on to then include the headers, then weather seals, replace windshield, side view mirrors, heads, alternator, water pump, radiator, power steering pump, blower, ac system, front wheel bearings, front brakes, rear brakes, rear axle, drive shaft, entire engine, transmission, etc, etc and after all that it still wasn't fixed. The owner asked for the keys and took it for a drive and yes it still made this weird hissing noise so he rolled down all the windows and stuck his head out. When they got back he asked them to change the tires to a set from a new 1968 98 Olds that was in the showroom that didn't hiss and the hiss went away. A slight variation in the tires was the cause of the problem that the mechanics couldn't figure out. Tires can sometimes make some odd noises that are hard to pin down. The owner of the dealership was not very happy yet glad to have stopped the bleeding. Best!

I was close to buying one in late 2019. I even test drove the dual motor, which is what I wanted to purchase. It was the nicest car I ever drove. The most expensive car my husband and I owned was a 2002 Saab 9 3 manual. We love manuals. I decided to wait to buy one until after battery day that was supposed to happen in late March 2020. Then the pandemic hit. I personally like the outside of the original design over the refresh. I don't like that they removed the stalks either. I'm waiting for safer batteries and hopefully batteries that don't need mining. Plus, I love my 2011 Chevy Cruze eco manual. It still is fine and currently I don't drive much. The Model 3 will be a HUGE upgrade when I finally get one :).

Live in Norway where there is a lot of supercharging stations, Teslas and non-Teslas. Have a SR+ 21m, and I am supersatisfied. One thing that strikes me about Model 3 is that is cheap and deliever in so many ways. If you drive your old grandma, she would be happy because you drive careful and it is supersmooth if you want it to be. At the same time you can scare your comrades to death if you use all its power out of the traffic lights. But the one thing that really surprised me is the way it handles corners. I have heard that american cars can't do corners, but this one handle corners in a way that I chicken out long before the car get dangerous. Its almost has the car can follow any legal speed in any corners in country roads. In these roads I many times drives comfortable and follow the speed limit but are gaining on normal cars ahead. The reason are that I can drive fast in corners and can without any stress pick up the speed fast out of the corners. The cars that overtake me, do not follow the speed limit on the open roads. One last thing: The autopilot works so well that the closets thing is BMW or Mercedes that costs 3 times what my car costs.

I think a big part of a Tesla's car cornering can be attributed to the heavy battery packs under the car giving it a very low center of gravity, in addition to its low clearance and tech that gives it great traction. Interstate loop ramps are fun to test out a Tesla's handling, I can quite comfortably go up one at 50mph under dry conditions. It could probably go even faster without the car slipping but I chicken out long before that.

This is the first Tesla that really makes sense to me...but my problem is the same problem that most buyers have...Even $40 grand is a lot of money, and most people do not have such a lump in the bank!...so, I guess I could sell my 2019 KIA Sorento (with today's inflated used car prices) for maybe $20 grand, and put that down on this cool Tesla. But that leaves me with a monthly car payment of 3-4 hundred bucks, for 4 or 5 years!...So, the money I save on gas, goes to the car payment anyway! The only way to make sense of owning an electric car, is to pay the total cost up front!...The situation for me, makes no sense from an economic standpoint--and my Sorento model has nearly 300hp, so it is quick for an SUV, has more room than the Tesla, and is a reliable car. I do spend around $250/month on gas, but at least I own my KIA. I an considering buying a used Nissan Leaf in the future, when those OK electric vehicles will be available in the 10-15 grand range. They are not as nice as the Tesla, but make more sense for an average guy like me. If/when I win the Lottery, it will be Tesla time!

Yes, Jay, it's the road surface that's making that noise. I noticed it when I drive in California on the I-10, at about Palm Springs and other areas where road resurfacing is taking place. There's a seam in the road in some lanes. And if your tires get right on top of the seam, it buzzes. That's because the seam is textured with cris-cross like marks in the new asphalt.

You don't need a HUD on an Autonomous car. You're moving your eyes 10° left (UK) to see the speed rather than 15°down... whatever. (Actually, as a tall driver, I HATE looking "through" the wheel) . When I "approach" a roundabout, I tend to indicate *before* I'm turning. If I'm turning "right" (3rdexit?) and it's a large roundabout, the wheel is going to be at about 45° and decreasing as I indicate left.... So no problem. . If it's a small one, once the right indicator is on, it's obvious where your going. .

How much are the tires average on the Model 3 and how long is the tread life average? I heard they were super expensive compared to a gas car and tread life is poor.

The lifespan of a Tesla Model 3's thread can vary depending on factors such as driving habits, road conditions, maintenance, and tire quality. On average, tires for a Tesla Model 3 can last anywhere from 20,000 to 60,000 miles, or even more in some cases. Regularly rotating the tires, maintaining proper tire pressure, and driving carefully can help extend the lifespan of the tires. It's essential to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for tire maintenance and replacement intervals to ensure optimal performance and safety. How many years have you been using it?

Tire wear is applied torque related. Also maximum torque. If you drive nice then tires last. If you use the ample torque often then less life. The latest Ford, GM, Ram heavy pickups with diesels have short rear tire life for lots of my friends.

Jay - The amount of batteries equivalent to one gallon of gas makes no sense when you consider the same battery will cycle thousands of times but one gallon of gas was used up in say 50 miles needing hundreds of more gallons of disappearing fuel or perhaps thousands of equivalent for the same recyclable battery over 500,000 miles lifetime plus your EV can power the grid or your home in a power outage

No indicator stalks is a deal breaker outside of the US where we have roundabouts and actually use indicators.

@@spacep0d haptic makes no difference if the wheel is upside down and moving. The problem is that particularly in tighter multi-lane roundabouts is that you need to switch from indicating one way to the other mid turn while watching other for other cars. The steering is actually turned more than 100º. I don't have the same reservations with the steer-by-wire in the cybertruck because the wheel/yolk does not move as much and the position of the indicator is much more predictable.

I like the new design, but I actually prefered the old duck/fish look, I feel like it kinda had more personality. The old model's headlight resembled Porsche Panamera a bit, while the new design looks more like Audi. I dislike Audis so my bias might be coming from there as well 😝
