As Premiere is not able to have the srgb color space, i have no choice but to color grade in davinci as i am free to choose whatever color space to work in. How about re-scaling and positioning done in Premiere, where the anchor point is off center. Is there a way to bring that over correctly into Resolve?
@davidbhulapatna38923 жыл бұрын
Render it as one file and let Resolve recut it with "autodetect Scene". I was just here to see if there is a better way than years before..but it seems there isn´t - xml doesn´t work if you got too complex editing in Premiere.

@@davidbhulapatna3892 I want to work with the original RAW footage. My only work around is to go through the timeline in Premiere before I export the XML and manually check the anchor point on all shots is in the center. Then any re-scales, like slow zoom in's are either done in Resolve or back in Premiere via adjustment layers. It's not ideal. Can she access my entire film, do her thing on Resolve, and then send it back to me over Google Drive where I can then export the final cut myself?
@JayLippman3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you also need to send her the original footage. Otherwise she'll be met with a lot of "media offline" errors.
@LCVFilms4 жыл бұрын
Great video Jay. Couple of questions: 1) if you were working with someone out of town and they sent you the XML files, do they have to send the footage along with it as well? 2) do you recommend that all transitions and effects are removed before moving the xml files from Premiere to Resolve?
@JayLippman4 жыл бұрын
The answer to both questions is yes. You'll need to have the footage for sure. As far as effects and transitions, sometimes they transfer over fine, and sometimes they don't, so I would just save those for after you bring the footage back into Premiere, or I would do the transitions in Resolve when you do the grading.

Great video! Just transferred one of my edited vid files from Premiere to Davinci and it worked flawlessly! But I will say that Davinci is a CPU HOUND!!! My temps easily went up 10-12C, along with checking iStats in Processes. Davinci was at 400-450% and Premiere was only at 45-50%. That was just having the file open without doing any type of editing. It was STILL sucking up that much processing power. Looks like I'm not going to be using Davinci as my standard editing tool anytime soon. Unless of course there's a way to divert the processing from just the CPU to the GPU. If you know of a way please let me know. Thanks. By the way, I just emailed you and hope we can connect.

I have seen that on the deliver page you just encoded the video clips as default QuickTime .mov files. I wonder if some other less lossy codec would be more appropriate here. After all, clips produced by Resolve are intermediate ones (i.e. they are going to be reencoded by Premiere). And that makes me wonder how hard it would be to generate archive projects of such workflow: Premiere has one archival procedure and Resolve has another, all in all, you will end up with multiple copies of clips.

I’m learning this stuff but as far as I know, no effects is gonna be loaded on Davinci, which means you need to do the cuts, do this process he showed, go back to premiere and then start doing your effects on Premiere and After effects
@handybobandy3 жыл бұрын
@@ePICS8 I'll probably just do the cutting on Davinci then, I just got their Speed Editor keyboard but more importantly their cutting workflow seems better in my opinion
@handybobandy3 жыл бұрын
But who knows I'm kind of already super familiar with Premiere and don't really feel like learning another editing program unless there will be a significant efficiency boost which I don't seem to be aware of at this time

@@handybobandy I'm really advanced in Premiere pro and I have recently downloaded Davinci in order to color grade my footage. It's been really hard for me, I'm so lost in the new software... I really didn't want to go to another software besides Premiere pro but I feel I can step up my game with the color grade tools from Davinci.

You definitely want to grade before you do effects. The effects won't transfer over.

when I import the xml to davinci, the timing is off by a few frames and I don't know how to fix it

You're not the first one to say that. I'm not sure what the deal is there. I haven't run into that issue. Then again, I rarely have to use this workflow.

nice video! is there a reason my drone clips are not sized right when imported into davinci ? I already scaled to Fram size on all of them in premier before making them into XML files so I thought this was weird. Anyways, thanks for the tutorial !
@JayLippman4 жыл бұрын
That's really weird. I'm not sure why that's happening, but I would guess that there is a setting either in Davinci or Premiere that could be tweaked to fix it. Maybe project settings in Resolve?
@dylanrogersfilm4 жыл бұрын
There is a crucial setting that I learned from a Udemy class “Davinci Resolve 15: Color Correction & Grading”. Its in the project settings if you DM me I can pull that up and send you a screenshot.

why would you colorgrade with filmconvert in davinci when u have filmconvert for premiere pro? :-/
@JayLippman4 жыл бұрын
I typically don't use Premiere Pro at all. I just used Filmconvert because it was a quick and easy example. If I was actually using Premiere Pro for my main editing, I would either use Filmconvert for PP or just use the native tools in Davinci for color grading.

Thanks for this. Hoping to go full Resolve at some point but it's pretty intimidating, but maybe this can be a nice first step. Wanted to chime in and say that this process doesn't support clips that are slowed down. I kept trying to import my timeline only for it to reject a few clips, and I couldn't relink them either. Took forever to figure out it was rejecting the slowed clips. I'll probably do this once for my main sequence, and then again with my slowmo clips in their own sequence.
@CadShizzle2 жыл бұрын
Not too sure, just did a whole project with slowmo footage using this method.
@@MikeCrocker How are you slowing your footage? Are you importing high frame rate footage and interpreting it to 24fps, or are you using the speed function?
