Jaymes how interesting to hear that Raquel had been a single mother of two when she made her start. I find that very fascinating especially for the times. For some reason I just assumed that she was discovered quickly after leaving school like so many of the other Bombshells were. Not an easy Journey for a mother trying to raise two young ones. Her strength and independence was a real inspiration to me as a young Women. A glorious Gal, I will miss her. By the way she did make me feel like a boy. LOL

I remember hanging out with my grandpa in Los Angeles, and was shocked when I saw Raquel Welch walking about. I didn’t want to invade her privacy, so I was just content to see her from afar. But my grandpa just suddenly yelled “Raquel!” And she came right up to us with a smile! It turns out they went to the same high school and college! When they were done catching up, I asked my grandpa what she was like when she was younger. He said “She was one of the smart ones. Certainly got better grades than me. I was surprised to see her in films. I think Hollywood wasn’t ready for a woman who can do-it-all like her though. She should have been more successful.”

My screenwriting teacher was a grad student at UCLA and wrote the first draft of Kansas City Bomber. He actually went to her house to give her the script. Crazy how different things were back in those days. He then went on to write Making Love, a very early 80s mainstream LGBTQ themed movie, and then wrote Crimes of Passion starting Kathleen Turner!

Anyone who hasn't seen Fantastic Voyage, it's a MUST SEE. An unusual premise, and for 1966... the special effects were very expensive and state of the art for it's day. It's a GREAT movie... I wouldn't classify it as "Schlock".... I reserve that distinction for movies like "Empire Of The Ants" (Which starrred Joan collins) or Lost in Space's "Vegetable rebellion" episode.

What a great tribute to Raquel Welch. Myra Breckinridge is such a strange movie but one of my favorites. And Raquel Welch’s performance in it is one of the most underrated comedic performances of all time. She’s so funny in it even when nothing funny’s really happening. She has this bitchy energy and delivers all her lines ( and she has a LOT of monologues) with this weird intonation that makes everything she says funny even when it really isn’t.
