How do you bypass automation clips on one pattern but keep it on the rest ??

Just getting started on FL and having troubles. Say if I wanted to add a phaser to the pattern but only one part of it, I will try and automate by recording and shifting the fader up. However this affects all of the pattern...not sure what I'm doing wrong. someone pls help

So do you want it to affect just one element of the pattern; like one drum sound or one instrument or do you mean just one part of the overall pattern
