Hey Jay - I'm surprised you felt a need to make this video. You don't owe anyone any explanation! As long as you are transparent and authentic in your content (not hiding some undeclared motives) you will have lots of genuine subscribers who enjoy sharing in your journey. As you said you are the only one on YT I found discussing this level of equipment. Also I find a lot of the others pretty boring to be honest. I’ve climbed the audio mt … sat at the summit and discovered I actually prefers most manufacturers 2nd. 3rd tier products rather than the statement gear. To me the ultra gear gave m e anxiety, was too high strung and imposing. In the process sold off my dagostino, pass labs monos, in favor if the Boulder 866 and krell K-300i integrated amps. I have a great turntable with thf new krell phonostage, review for positive feedback in the works, with the new 20k PS audio speakers, also in for review and having a ball. It’s amazing how good these price points have gotten and I’ve enjoyed the scaling back process. Can I afford 100k speakers? Yes. I just don’t want them anymore. Maybe when I retire? Maybe. Jay, I got to admit to you, at first, I did not think the best of you. I believed you had your nose turned up to those who could not afford the stuff you have and have reviewed/owned/etc. After watching a few more of your videos, I honestly felt that I got a better feel for your personality and really think I was WRONG for prematurely judging you. I respect your drive and hustle and subscribed to your channel today. I appreciate your particular journey, the way that you explain things, and the details you provide when comparing how your set ups change when swapping out equipment. The truth is, I can't afford even the cables you use, and I really am happy (whatever that means - you know what I mean) with my very humble set up which is valued at approximately 3K. It makes me smile every time I listen to it. And I am by no means done. In conclusion, this video was great, setting things strait. I respect your journey, and, in the end, I really enjoy your content and look forward to future videos. I'm not going to ask you to review more "affordable" gear, because that's not where you are with your journey, and that's cool. Keep doing you and I will follow up with your future work. Thank you!

I can relate to the sense of growing up on the wrong side of the tracks, and needing to work hard to feel like I belong on the other side. At the same time, these efforts have diminishing returns. I've finally reached the point that I can quietly appreciate my own luxuries, and work on my insecurities, in my own space, and not have to broadcast them for validation. Takes a long time to get there (now in my upper 50's), and never completely goes away. Our efforts of validation can have opportunity costs. I had kids late in life, for which I am thankful. If I had been a younger dad, my own ambitions would have taken quite a bit away from my time and attention to them. Money is a key commodity. but as you get older, you realize time and personal energy are the most scarce and valuable of all. Good luck with your journey.

What a lot of people don't realize is that most people with your means wouldn't bother sharing their journey or equipment on a public social media platform. So we should have a little gratitude. You didn't need to make this video; there's always going to be hate on the internet for one reason or another. People as successful as yourself always have people trying to tear them down and belittle them without realizing what it took to get there and stay there. Ignore that toxic BS.

We met at the Florida expo 2022 at the bar and chit-chatted some, and from - albeit brief - personal experience you are a soft-spoken, knowledgeable, thoughtful, friendly guy, passionate about the field. Nobody has a right to ask anything more of your and you have no obligation to be anything else. Just keep being you, and do the parts you enjoy and jettison the parts you don’t, imo. Ignore detractors - in the end a lot of people suck, and that’s their problem not your’s, no need to give them a 2nd thought - and appreciate your supporters.

Hey Jay, I think you know I'm a real fan, been a subscriber for about two years, bought a consultation with you, etc etc etc. All that to say I hope you understand I have no ulterior motive here with the questions. I have been really dying to know financial specifics on how you acquire the gear that you do, not to check you, but mainly because I'd like to replicate the process! I suppose this is a minor criticism, but this video really doesn't explain at all how you afford the pieces you have. You mention you work very hard and grind etc, of that I have no doubt, but a Janitor can work till his fingers bleed, he will never own a new Ferrari as a janitor. Just considering the speakers behind you, the Chronosonics are $350,000 a pair. The speakers alone represent a yearly salary that less 1% of the US population make! Not to mention that most people with a job earning $350k a year still couldn't afford those speakers! Some one walking into a Wilson dealer today and purchasing a pair of Chronosonics cash is almost certainly a multi-millionaire. You have repeatedly admitted you aren't that! So, please understand I'm not asking you to divulge any personal financial information or anything along those lines; rather I'm hoping you can offer something, anything, a bit more specific than "work hard." For example, do you take advantage of leverage/financing? Do you start small and trade up? I'm hoping for details along those lines, etc. Anyway, I hope this post doesn't hit the wrong way! I'm a huge supporter of yours and really am in your corner. Thanks.

So, you don't see much live music, know what good jazz, or classical, or whatever, in a good acoustic space, may sound like, or spend time in a recording studio understanding the equipment, the difference in sound between different microphones, and their effect on the recording, how do you interpret fine equipment without a music reference? I am glad you get to enjoy the finer things in life. There was a great deal of hard work that went into all the equipment that you have shown. It is wonderful that someone like yourself who understands the effort that went into building and designing this equipment gets to enjoy it. If you have watched the movie the accountant, there is a woman who is thrilled to see a Jackson Pollock painting that the accountant had. She was thrilled not because of its cost, but knowing of the mastery of the artist who made such a beautiful painting. In the end, the accountant gives here the painting. She could have sold it to improve her life, but she hung it on her wall to do what was intended by the artist. Just enjoy it. This is the passion I see in you when you present your equipment. The makers of this equipment should be thrilled that a person as your self is enjoying and respecting their hard work.

Jay, you certainly don’t have to answer to the haters. You only have to answer to yourself- is the grind worth the loss time with your family, the stress and the like? I would like to hear more of your comparisons among speakers, e.g. how would your describe the differences between your current Wilsons and the relatively inexpensive Magnepans 20.7 you had?
