We couldn't do this in 2023. Now it's evolved into a whole new beast where money and greed have taken over. Free street rave 90s was the best decade

I know you are young, but the money and greed had already taken over by 1999.

We used to have Reclaim The Streets in Sydney, they were lots of fun, especially the ones that shut down the centre of Newtown.

At least in the USA and UK, legislation was a particularly devastating blow to scenes and the culture because it made it very difficult and risky to continue unsanctioned events, and if a promoter wanted to go on at all there were incredibly high-stakes incentives to legitimize. And over the course of the '90s this saw a lot of promoters (and artists and labels and everyone adjacent to the culture) really going from doing just what it took to survive, to becoming very opportunistic to the detriment of the culture. This is just the nature of the world under this dominant economic system. All must be colonized and commoditized.

I was there for this festival. The scene peaked in Melbourne for about 5 years straight. It was an amazing time and I am truly happy to have been a part of it most weekend's.

Awesome! Always liked Jayse Knipe's sets. The street parties on Chapel Street beside Euphemism were fun too. Everyone seems more connected with the music & the vibe with no mobile phones.

@@DjVastUKwhy are people so bitter about technology evolving and society adapting to it. Without Internet, phones and global interconnectivity all these experiences would still be in their own bubbles. In this new world we all appreciate how techno became so beloved and we can discover more of it from all over the world.
@DjVastUK10 ай бұрын
@@marztar yeah i get what you are saying,its great people can record stuff and send it out all over the world on the internet-but i think you are missing the point. People are no longer in the moment enjoying the music and dancing,all they are doing is worrying about posing and looking good for their next instagram post! That is NOT what this scene is about! And anyone who does,...well i feel very sorry for them indeed 😔
@marztar10 ай бұрын
@@DjVastUK well I think you're putting much emphasis on that because you're focusing too much on those people because yeah they are products of modern society and of the narcissist nature of social media. There's many more types of people than that though and modern movements of social media that aren't that for example are the well-being/spiritual minded empathy and charitable movements are also rising. Many millennials are focused on expanding their minds and also having input in the renaissance of past goodness of bygone eras. THE 90s for example are now treated with much admiration and respect by teenagers of today just in the same way middle aged adults of those 90s revered their hey days of the 70s and 80s. Culture is always changing and there's more greatness than misery. But if you focus on only the negative then that's just all you'll see or all you'll think is happening. Not saying you are that only because yes I get your point but as I said at the start of this comment.. yes western culture is narcissistic and easily manipulated... but that's the beauty of youth and new generations... They are the future.. And there's always groups within the groupthink masses that don't accept the status quo and either look back and bring back past.. or create new things and thoughts all together. Techno is eternal. Actually imo it's timeless. I grew up in the 90s raves and I never grew out of it. No need for drugs either the feels of dancing to music that's now decades old but still amazing is a priceless experience. I also love UK rave/club scene and often blast radio one dj sets from so many now iconic venues. Live long and dance on man!

The last track is banging. Does anybody know it? Snd yes, Melb scene was off tape at this time. So was the smack, there were people dying regularly less than 1km from here. Not the same scene, but the drugs in Melbourne had a free rein, and while sohh no e enjoyed it others were trapped. Still, looks like a mad party. I wasn’t at this one but I did go to similar ones
