I'm new to CD. I'm ordering my stash now. I have been researching Microfiber more because I can't stand that all the pocket diapers I want come with microfiber! The cons outweigh the pros for me. The pocket diapers are so expensive and then I have to buy additional inserts that are cotton or another fabric. So I'm trying to figure out what to do. Maybe not go with those pocket diapers at all.
@maiantonio91225 жыл бұрын
Microfiber is the worst. It almost turned me away from cloth diapering & it's not eco-friendly. I wish companies would stop selling microfiber inserts unless it comes with a natural insert to help with absorption because it really does ruin someone's first experience with cloth diapers for sure.
@clarissabernice4 жыл бұрын
And here I am with 2 microfiber inserts per pocket diaper lol. They should give us options on what to send, I'd pay a bit more for a hemp or bamboo one . Idk what to do with all of these
@kellie51383 жыл бұрын
@@clarissabernice you can use the microfiber as mop pads or cleaning rags. I started cloth about a month ago and within 2 weeks I was ready to throw the towel in and forget it all because of MF. So happy I was able to try bamboo & hemp when I did lol. MF literally broke my portable washer trying to rinse the detergent out of the MF. It was insane! They're now in my stack of steam mop pads.

@@kellie5138 I have a portable washing machine how did you almost break it just washing microfiber?
@jessicapearson94792 жыл бұрын
Never put your microfiber in any washing machine!! They Need to be hand washed! You have to squeeze out all the liquid and rinse and ring out by hand at least 3 times. You also should not use laundry detergent on them. Dawn dish soap is safe and you do not need to use very much at all.

I have had microfiber work in the past but now I hate it and got rid of pretty much all of it. I didnt truly get rid of them, they became grease rags and spill soakers. I do like my AIO newborn microfiber diapers. I love my hemp my mom made and my bamboo.

I’ve been cloth diapering for a little over a month on my two youngest that are in diapers. My stash is mostly microfiber and it works for my newborn but I’m working on weeding it out of my stash because I just don’t like it it doesn’t work for my toddler at all I’ve been stuffing her pockets with receiving blankets and it works so much better.

My LO is 7 months. She has never had a rash! I have put the microfiber against her skin. I change her liner like 7-8 times a day. We use Burt’s Bees healing ointment every day and her skin is perfect. We have never used any diaper rash cream. She has never had a rash. We asked our doctor and she said what we are doing is fine. We have no leaks!! We have no odor lingering after the wash. We soak them under the sink in a bucket of Oxiclean. Then wash in hot water with detergent and all the water from the soak
@JaysNest2 жыл бұрын
What brand microfiber? Some brands like best bottoms and grovia have a stay dry liner, on top. If you’re using healing ointment every day, then that’s the same as a rash cream…. It’s a rash preventative/barrier cream. So still a “diaper cream” Microfiber has a lot more cons than it does pros, but it does work for some people from birth to potty training with no issue. So I your routine ain’t broke then don’t fix it

When you say you only use flats, do you use flour sack towels quite a bit? Or when you do use them, do you use them in combination with something else? Also, have you ever used the ikea burp cloths as flats to stuff inside pocket diapers??
@JaysNest5 жыл бұрын
I don’t reach for flour sacks anymore. I do, however, reach for receiving blankets! I find receiving blankets to be more absorbent than flour sacks. I’ve actually never been to ikea lol. I don’t even know if there’s one near me, to be honest. Ive never seen them around. In my early journey I think I saw a video from Kim Rosas talking about them in a video.

And sometimes I’ll use a Geffen or Thirsties hemp insert. My girls keep going in and out of being a heavy wetter. They currently don’t need any extra absorbency with their flats!
@helenlivermore8085 жыл бұрын
Hello, I am a newbie at cloth diapering. I got all my supplies ready to go. Thirsties hemp inserts, bum genius 5.0, and some grovia prefolds, and also got some geffen inserts too. My daughter is 5 months old, and I was wondering how I stuff my diapers. I understand that hemp and bamboo dont absorb as quick as microfiber but can hold a lot. So is it ok to just put in one thirsties insert or do I have to put in two or do i put in the microfiber to soak quick on top of the thirsties to hold more? Or can I just skip the microfiber? I am very confused about this part. There is no video out there that explains how to use the insert. Like is there a sandwich combo without the microfiber I can do of different stuff (ie. A cotton prefold instead of the microfiber) or just one hemp insert ok to do?

Cotton instead. Shame no replied to you.

Mine have never stunk and I have never had compression or leaking issues. I do however make sure to change my son every hour or so and I do wash the diapers immediately or with in 3 hours of changing my son. I guess it could also depend on the quality of the inserts. But my favorite to use is flat diapers as inserts. However, I do like to use microfiber too. I am surprised to hear that people put the microfiber inserts against their child's bare skin!!! That is a huge NO, NO!!

So what about kangacare rump-a-rooz? They are micro chamois will this irritate baby's bottom?
@jessicapearson94792 жыл бұрын
Only the inserts will irritate your baby. Though if you are worried you can use a cotton wicking flannel ontop to protect your babies but. Also, make sure to use baby powder that will help too.

Is micro fleece just as bad to be against babies skin? Due in January and most of my inserts are micro fleece on top with microfibre on the inside from GroVia. Should I keep them off baby’s skin?

Ugh I hate microfiber. When my friends say they want to cloth diaper and they look for the cheapest option and it’s microfiber I always tell them not to! All of my friends who have started with microfiber either quit cloth or switched to cotton prefolds. I just really don’t understand why they’re sold, seems like more cons then anything.
@JaysNest5 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree! Microfiber has way more cons than pros. Deep down I wish that companies would stop selling it and use cotton instead. They’re also really bad for the environment since they shed into the water supply.

I gave up on cloth as of last night 😔 my daughter was born 8/5, I born some new born and Bumgenius AIO freetime. I had to change my daughter twice cause she leaked right thru, I’m to the point of selling all my Bumgenius cause I just give up!( I haven’t even used the Bumgenius yet as she still small but I just can’t deal with the leaking)
@JaysNest5 жыл бұрын
Aww I’m sorry you gave up. Leaks are annoying! I’m not a fan of Aios or microfiber for that reason. Aios have limited absorbency and are expensive. And microfiber is prone to leaks and not great for heavy wetters. If you ever revisit cloth one day I highly recommend trying out a different system and trying natural fibers. It’s hard to gauge how much absorbency your baby will need but natural fibers are way more forgiving❤️

I have a question, since we have nicer days I've been rinsing my diapers under water and put them put to dry in out shower or outside. It works nice and keeps the "urine" what should I do when it get cold?
@lizabethmccool29905 жыл бұрын
You can do the same thing but inside. Or just don’t rinse them unless they are non-EbF poo.
@jessicapearson94792 жыл бұрын
You should really wash your inserts and diapers not just rinse them. And if you have a heater hang them near that or what I do is put them in a spin dryer to get all water out then hang right above the bathroom baseboard heater. They are completely dry in an hour to hour and a half.

Such an awesome idea for a series! I personally love microfibre 😂 I’ve never had stink, discolouration or loss of absorbency and I love that it doesn’t deteriorate over time like cotton or hemp does (because lately all of my natural fibre diapers have been coming apart and growing holes). I feel like everyone in the community hates it but it works well for us 🤷🏼♀️ Definitely agree with outgrowing the absorbency though but that does tends to happen with most inserts in my experience. You can just double it up with a natural fibre insert or two and it’s perfect 👌🏻

Use dawn dish soap to get poop stains out and make sure to wash by hand and rinse and ring out at least 3 time then hang out in the hot sun til at least an hour to two hours after it is completely dry. The sun will bleach it. Though if you have really really bad stains nothing will work no matter what material you are using.
