Dynamic range optimizer is probably the reason for the color shift when you switch to live view.

Hey Jason, another great video, just wondered if you can help, I think the video covers remote shooting photos, rather than video. It seems on Sony website that AF is not an option when shooting video ! Which is a shame as I bought the camera so I could shoot my YT vids solo. Well it depends on what camera and what focus mode you are using. It's been a while since I used this program, but it worked last time I checked.. Did you try changing the focus mode to touch focus as apposed to touch tracking on the camera? I think that might be your issue, because I don't think tracking works from the app, and the camera is set to tracking by default when it comes to touch focus...

When you take a photo it automatically opens up the Viewer... On the top right of the viewer screen are your view options... See at the 12:30 mark top right you have 3 view options for the viewer itself... I have the middle one selected, I'm guessing you have the left "grid view" selected?

Hi, I have a sony ar7ii. I couldn't control my focus on my Imaging Edge app, even though I set up the focus mode as spot focus. The focus window just doesn't show on my screen. I also don't see the focus area button on the app. I don't see the "focus" section as it is shown in this video either. My camera firmware is up to date and I recently downloaded the app, so I assume it should be the latest version. I use Mac. Anyone has the same problem? Thanks.

Yeah, you need to go into the remote shooting settings on the camera and change it to Original file type & Destination + Camera or Destination only... It's set to camera only be default sometimes...

the link you have given auto redirects to the creators cloud.. and the download button for imaging Edge Desktop in creators cloud then sends you back to the creators cloud page in a continuous loop... is there another download source (from Sony) that bypasses the annoying creators cloud?

Hi Rick, Do tot he size of the video files I don't think they can be copied over automatically. It's hard to say, because every camera works slightly different with this app... Yes you can for sure. Just navigate to whatever drive you want and create the folder there. I use external drives for all my videos and it works the same as creating a folder on a local drive.

Great video. Using your tips I successfully tethered an A7SII. I do have a problem though. All functions seem to work except focus. I can’t seem to get the correct combination of settings right. There is no focus box in the software next to the D-R area as in your video. I have flexible spot on screen in the camera. Any thoughts? The application isn’t of much use if I can’t control focus. Lens is the Sony/Zeiss 4/16-70. Thanks!

I'm not sure what your issue is, but I do know not all cameras have all functions available. Sony seams to have made it selective based on camera models with the newest units having the most features. Frustrating for sure! I don't have an A7S II on hand to play with either, sorry...

You can record the audio separately to your computer and then sync the audio using video editing software. Other than that, you would need a mic plugged directly into the camera microphone port.

On my a6400 I get a loud hiss into the video if I use usb n external mic at the same time. The his disappears if I disconnect the usb and record or if I unplug the mic and use usb tethering. I have tried different wires and different mics like lav or blue yeti or zoom h6. Same problem. Any solution ???

My guess would be the A5100 does not support the live view. It is a older camera compared to the latest models that do support the live view.

Hi, I have a the a9 and have been successful connecting to my computer and to the remote desktop app. However, even when I set my focus area to Flexible Spot: M or Expand Flexible Spot, I'm not able to change the focus from my computer. The focus option is completely greyed out. I can't actually see where I'm focusing at all. What other settings could I be missing? Thank you!

Thanks a bunch. I have a weird thing going on . When I shoot tethered, the shots appear briefly on the screen, but the latest image only lasts a second or two before the screen defaults back to the first image shot in the session. For portrait sessions, when the client is adjusting poses etc., this is frustrating because I have to walk back to the screen and click back on the latest image for every shot. Help!!

And on Canon, I had the Canon software where i could control the camera to focus, shoot and record as well. And I was testing the sony one, the pictures go straight to the computer, but is there a way to do this with the videos as well? - Record it, watch it, discard or keep it without have to unplug the USB and all?

As far as I know video has to be recorded on the card due to the large file size and possibility of it getting corrupted during transfer. I don't think there is a fix for that...

This is really helpful except I can't get the PC Remote function to turn on. I have a sony ZV-1 M2 and the settings are different than the ones you show. I don't see an option anywhere to turn PC Remote on. Found the section in the menu that says it includes it but then there isn't an option for it.

Do you have the camera in the correct mode? Video vs Photo for example.... The Menu will change depending on the mode the camera is in.

Yeah I believe you need to have all the apps, because they work together as a package. You don't need to use them all though of course...

@@Jason_Hermann no you are right . Only A7riv, Sony Siii , and A7C have that feature bc its new technology built in. I checked with Sony. But you can buy a device that attaches to do it to do wireless tethering which is a bit cumbersome if you want to put a strobe trigger in the hotshoe at same time.

As far as I can tell, this software is really made more for photography than video when it comes to transferring files at least. The video files are just so large, Sony decided it best to copy them over separately I guess. Otherwise you won't be able to do do anything with the camera while the files transfer is my guess...

I've tried, for weeks on end, to get my FX3 and my A7Siii to connect using Sony Imaging Desktop and their webcam installer.. it shows the camera in the list, the camera is in pc remote mode, but it just will not connect. Gives the error, cannot connect to the camera, make sure its in pc remote mode etc.. obviously, I have tried different cables, changed all the settings, tried quitting google drive and dropbox (running in the background), but nothing will make either of these cameras connect. It must be soemthing with teh mac, not the cameras (as they are two different camera models).. any ideas?

I agree it does sound like something with the Mac... I have not updated mine to Ventura yet, because in the past this has lead to problems with Final Cut for me... Have you tried using the webcam for face time and is it just black, or won't let you select from the list?

@@Jason_Hermann I found a mini hack that allows it to work for a while, which is allow the sony imaging app to access screen recording in the system settings. But its only temp, need to restart the computer to get it work again after any disconnections or screen savers.. sony needs to find a fix! 🥶

hey i have a few questions. 1. do my videos save to my computer? my pictures show up but my videos dont and Im only going to be using it for video. 2. is there a way to flip the live view to record horizontally?

@@aaron.chandra I didn't solve the issue but I have answers I guess lol. Videos save to SD card on camera so I've been moving my SD card back and forth which is a pain but whatever. And for flipping the video, I just register my camera as a Webcam on streamlabs and flip it there but still record on imaging edge. So I can see myself how I would see myself in post but I'm still recording normally. Then when I edit I'd flip the video horizontally. Keep in mind I'm only using the micro USB plug. Idk if anything changes if I used the hdmi plug... I don't have one so:) Edit: Also I'm the same guy from the original comment just on a different account lol

FYI If there is any app that supports any type of photos open, I mean any, dropbox, preview, photoshop, Lightroom etc. Turn them off!

When I use Viewer, all my RAW photos are completely scattered without rhyme or reason. There is no clear way to organize the photos in any order. This has forced me to shoot all my photos in JPEG. Viewer sucks.

I would recommend using an application like Adobe Lightroom for your photo management needs. This software is great in a pinch, but not that good compared to a real dedicated program.

Very useful but when I downloaded the software there was no way to make it run. So the rest of the tutorial made no sense.. But thanks.
