Interesting comment ;) Why would you say that? I tried my best to be fair and when you factor in the "cost", I'm extremely impressed with this lens. I currently have the Venus Optics Laowa Argus 33mm f/0.95 CF APO Lens (bhpho.to/33Q6kkW) and it has a far better build and optics, but it costs twice the price of the 7artisans. Thanks for the review. CA goes away at 2.8? Hmmm. I don't think I'de buy this lens to shoot at 2.8. How does Lightroom handle the CA? I think I can live with some distortion, but I'm afraid the CA wide open may be objectionable. But if LR can adjust for it, I think I can live with it. In your real world examples, I don't see a lot of fringing. Did you take it out?

It's pretty bad in the lab testing which you can easily see in detail at various apertures here: www.sonyalphalab.com/7artisans-35mm-f-0-95-lens-lab-testing/ When looking at the real world photos it's barely noticeable though unless you zoom in to those super high contrast areas in some shots... Real world sample photos here: www.sonyalphalab.com/my-7artisans-35mm-f-0-95-lens-review/ For $250 US this lens performs pretty darn good in the real world I would say....

Great review as usual Jay! I have a Sony A6500....how does this lens compare to the Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS with regards to sharpness/bokeh... Which is better? Thanks 🙂
@Jason_Hermann3 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) I would say the bike is better on this lens, but sharpness is better on the Sony. Plus the Sony lens has Auto Focus and is much lighter weight... As far as which is better is really subjective, because if you need focus clearly the Sony is better. If you just want the maximum separation and that killer fast aperture look, then the 7art would be a better choice at the cost of weight and having to manual focus, as well as softer corner sharpness.

Yes, but not in full frame mode, so it's not ideal for the A7 III. The 7 artisans 35mm f/1.4 Lens (bhpho.to/2Umfa5E) would be a full frame option and very similar to this lens. Also the The 7artisans 50mm f/1.05 Lens (bhpho.to/321Dnlv) is another full frame coverage lens option.

I now have this lens for my Sony A6500 and it's great except for the aperture ring. I wish it were clicked but since it is not I feel like it should have quite a bit more resistance which would also help stop accidental turning. Can anyone tell me if the Mitakon 35mm 0.95 mk2 aperture ring is tighter (has more resistance) than this 7artisans version? Thanks!
@Jason_Hermann4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I hear ya, and I have not used the Mitakon so I can't say one way or another unfortunately. You just need to make sure it's at f/1.4 when using. It's not that bad, because your playing with the focus anyway most times, but I totally agree it should be at least tighter... Jay

@@Jason_Hermann Looked at your review of the 35mm F1.2. It too looks to be a great lens. The rendering of the bokeh looks great on it. My take away was that the F1.2 has less fringing and nicer bokeh balls than the F0.95? But the F0.95 is sharper. For me bokeh quality and overall rendering is important but it’s hard to tell which I prefer. I’ll definitely be picking up one. Any chance you could upload a comparison pic of the same picture taken on both lenses at F1.2? I see your bokeh set up changed between reviews. It would be a huge help but if not then no worries and thanks for the feedback.

Does bokeh have thin line circle on edge of bokeh circle when atmosphere is sunny and disappears with shade? How is the field curvature. I am looking for manual lens with low field curvature and clean bokeh. Your video shows the bokeh as great. But I read somewhere else, bokeh can have circles. 15:48 mins bokeh character is interesting

@Jason_Hermann3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the subject matter as to how the bokeh balls look. I tried to include enough sample photos to try and answer that question for you. At that point of the video looking at the tree they look awesome in my opinion, but they are not even due to how the light was falling on the tree. The bokeh looks different when the source is providing the light like you can see in the lab testing.

Didn't even know lenses could have such a low f number! Great video by the way! I do want to know though, why do they call a low f lens a "fast" lens?
@Jason_Hermann4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ben, Thanks for the kind comments and great question! They call large aperture lenses fast, because it's easier to get a fast shutter speed due to more light coming thru the lens. A faster shutter speed = faster lens... Great for lower light situations in particular which also helps keep the ISO as low as possible.
