Thank you Jason! Super helpful. I got the R50 and I only have the kit lens, which other lens would you recommend? Mostly for traveling (landscape, portraits, animals), 50mm?
@Jason_Hermann Жыл бұрын
I would grab the RF-S 55-210mm geni.us/PbfjL0S to compliment your RF-S 18-55mm lens for the most range and most affordable option. The 55-210mm appears to only be available as a kit lens option though at the time of writing this unfortunately... For the best all-in-one lens option you can get the RF-S 18-150mm lens: geni.us/5pxFjX and then you won't really need the 18-45mm lens anymore... 150mm is a lot of reach... I compared the 18-45mm vs the 18-150mm lens here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIeZiZmVert1iZY You could also consider some full frame RF lenses, but they are larger and more expensive for the most part... The RF 24-240mm geni.us/QqwaXAB in particular looks to be a great all-in-one lens option for the money, but it's $899 US... For portraits in particular, the RF 50mm f/1.8 lens: geni.us/U8903L would be an excellent option and it's very affordable... I hope that helps and thank you for the kind words about the video :) Jay

I bought my camera during Black Friday. Specifically I chose the 2 lens kit. I haven’t went and experimented with the camera I’ve been putting that off for about month. I picked up the canon r50 because I watch great reviews on KZbin and before I stumbled onto the r50 I thought about buying the canon m50 mkii. Anywho I wanted to pick up another hobby and photography stood out to me, however I don’t know nothing about photography or these fancy words you guys are using. But my 2024 New Year’s resolution was to take great photos and videos and their was no better way to start but to start here with your excellent explanation on this powerful and incredibly compact camera. I’m taking notes , pausing and rewinding and taking it all in. Want to know all about there is about photography. Just wanted to say thank you , thanks for your explanation. Hope to see another in depth explanation on future canon cameras.

Awesome valuable video. I have a quick question, though. You said the canon r50 has a UHS-1 card slot, but you linked a UHS-2 card from Prograde in the description info.. Will the UHS-2 Prograde card be compatible with the R50 without any complications??
@Jason_Hermann3 ай бұрын
Yes, and it will also read faster when you copy the photos and videos to your computer if you use a good SD card reader as well. The cheaper SD card geni.us/ocM6zGO like this will also work great, just slower transferring files is all... I added the cheaper card to the description as well, I'm not sure why I did not include it also, thanks!!

I just had to come back and say once again this camera is the BEST FOR BEGINNERS… so easy to use and download the canon connect and you can take photos from your iPhone. Love love love this camera. Pics come out CRYSTAL CLEAR! I do have the lens the camera came with and notice it’s really good with group photos, And I bought the 50mm to give me blurry backgrounds, and that one is mostly for single person shots. Am I right on that sir?
@Jason_Hermann7 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing and yes you are correct as far as lens choice for singles and groups... you would have to be really far away to use the 50mm for a group shot ;) Much better served for single portraits and subject separation stuff like products or flowers for example in my opinion... Thank you for the informative video!! What's the best lense/focus to use for back to school headshots?
@Jason_Hermann3 ай бұрын
Not that many RF-S lenses yet to choose from honestly, but for now I would say the 18-150mm @ 150mm is what I would try and use with the background as far as possible from the subject if you have that lens. Otherwise the RF 50mm f/1.8 lens geni.us/Wb3yaWq would prolly be your best option for the money.. For focus I would just leave it in the full area mode with the human subject detect on. It should find the human eyes and lock on nice and easy...

Jason, I have 2 questions if you don’t mind. My 1st question: We are doing car dealerships social media management and shooting the cars. Under the sun, how can I take better pictures? Is it with ND filter? Or can you tell me a better adjustment from settings? My 2nd question is when I am shooting interior, sun is coming from windshield on top of dashboard and there is so much sun burst happening. Can you suggest me a setting for that also. I will be really appreciate if you can give me suggestions, thank you in advance 🙏🏻
@Jason_Hermann4 ай бұрын
Hey there, Good lighting is the key thing you need to think about here. Camera settings cannot fix harsh lighting. Try early in the day about 1-2 hours after sunrise, or 1-2 hours before sunset for example. That will make a huge difference! You should certainly invest in a good quality polarizer which will help a lot with the glare on the shinny cars and glass. High quality lenses also help. All the best, Jay

@Jason_Hermann Жыл бұрын
You are very welcome and Merry Christmas... Any mode, Macro has to do with the lens allowing you to focus really close to stuff, hence the need for macro lenses... Every lens offers a minimum focus distance, meaning how close it will focus on something and you can see this in the specs of lenses.

Great video. Going to have to watch multiple times i think! What settings would be useful for whale watching?? I am going to play with the burst shot setting to capture multiple images, as well as trying the tracking focus. I am hoping to find a preset scene which will work for bring conditions. Any other tips to think about please let me know! I have also bought a polarised filter to hopefully reduce glare and a lens hood to shield light.
