Thank you for this video, I hope it's not understated that something you do especially well is show that the most important part of it all is the determination to do it. Starting can be hard when you already feel like you're not enough, but knowing that it's more about realizing internal potential than being someone who loves 3 mile runs so much they do it for fun is surprisingly reassuring. I'll give it my best shot and try and be the best I can be, no matter how it turns out nobody will be able to say I didn't give it a good try.

Thank you very much for this video! I tried the fitness test not the prejoining one but the actual one where it has 60 Push Ups, 85 Sit Ups and 16 Pull ups and it was hard! I wasn't able to complete these but I was getting just under 2/3rds of the way there so I will be sure to use some of your tips because once I'm done with school in 2 years time I want to sign up and join the Royal Marines it's my dream job

As a student in year 11 my predicted GCSE grades are quite high so I want to join the marines as an officer but the PRMC is difficult enough as it is let alone the POC, I know I will do well with the essays and knowledge driven tests but in the POC you obviously have to do more than in the PRMC when it comes to gym test and the assault cause so I'm here to try and keep a workout routine and get fitter for when I go into training which is quite difficult because I lack the commitment. Chrs for the video mate.

You could try working on your knees and trying to push for a higher rep, then work to move back to push ups. If that's too easy then try different types of push ups like diamond and close arm
@JayTilleyTV
@JayTilleyTV 3 жыл бұрын
I always say keep practicing but if you feel you’ve hit a stale mate then focus on doing max on toes, drop to knees and max out with full depth. Recover and go again. Hit this for a few sets a few times a week and you’ll start to see those numbers creep up

Hey man another great video, found this really helpful as with all your other great content. Quick question, I am looking to go into the RM next year. I can go and do officer training but I wanna be one of the lads and have as much time in the field as poss. But I also want the huge benefits that come with being an officer, I also hope to do the SBS one day. Anyways what would you recommend, applying for training for a commando/private/royal marine or officer?
@JayTilleyTV
@JayTilleyTV 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man and that’s a great question that I know a lot of people think about because I was the same. This would all depend on what you really want, like you say I went for regular because I wanted to be in the mix and more one of the lads but then again if you want to look at the money and progressive side then officer would be worth a better shout. I wouldn’t want to influence someone into either because it’s such a personal preference, they both have their benefits and cons.
@ethanmitchell438
@ethanmitchell438 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, could I go for the regular marines and spend a few years in there and then when I feel like I want to progress go back and do the officer training? Because at the end of the day I have literally no responsibilities/ things to pay for etc. Also can you recommend any awesome cardio workouts/circuits like the finton circuit for example? But keep up the great work, you really put some good content out there.

Thanks man glad you liked it. Mentality is a weird one as it’s hard to replicate the scenarios. I feel like if your pretty self driven and refuse to give into things this is a good start. I used music a lot in training to help control stress but apart from that the connection of you and the other lads in your troop will help get through it

On your functional point - what’s your opinion on CrossFit as a training method for joining?
@JayTilleyTV
@JayTilleyTV 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I mean most military folk end up going down the CrossFit / functional route because your just hammering your body to get fitter and it works really well. The only thing I would say is as good as CrossFit can be make sure your doing it somewhere that helps build you up focusing on form and performance just so you don’t damage yourself!

Thanks for the videos mate, very helpful. I’m hoping to join ASAP but I’m battling shin splints pretty bad. In the last year I’ve dropped about 15kg down to 75kg, I’ve recently had running shoes fitted for me, I stretch and foam roll every day and it’s still quite debilitating I’ve not been able to get more than 10 miles a week in for best part of a year which I know is not enough. Have you got any tips for dealing with it? Thanks a lot
@Sad_Boy_Konrad_Curze12
@Sad_Boy_Konrad_Curze12 3 жыл бұрын
I used to get shin splints quite often when I use to do muay thai and they were a bitch the only thing you can do is rest and ice them and wait for them to heal I would also advise not training for about a week or so just so they can heal quicker.
@danjones4432
@danjones4432 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly stop running until the pain is completely gone because carrying on is no good and could end up seriously breaking yourself. You can keep up your cardio through cycling though.
@JayTilleyTV
@JayTilleyTV 3 жыл бұрын
Shin splints is a bugger, I used to suffer badly too but I just tried to run through it and stretched where possible. I always found a good stretch on the calf’s, shins and feet always helped relieve the pressure. I would say now there’s better ways to try manage it like ice, rest, foam rolling and stretching etc. Try manage it and if it’s that bad go see someone 👌🏼

Remember that these are one of the hardest tests to pass in the military world “uk-wise” so I would build a foundation to fall back on. If I were you I would apply when I have enough qualifications so that if I fail or made permanently medically unfit (it does happen) then it wouldn’t leave me struggling to find another good job and so on. I don’t know what age you are right now but let’s say your doing your GCSEs, well do a levels and maybe go to uni, after all that try applying. Just my view...
@JayTilleyTV
@JayTilleyTV 3 жыл бұрын
All good answers and this totally depends on the person. Realistically you want to go when your both physically and mentally mature because it is really quite tough. I was 18 and passed but then we seen 28 year olds join and fail. So age isn’t the determining factor, you and your body is 👌🏼

It's not like I'm unfit, I could just be fitter. I'm a regional swimmer so I don't often do land based exercise, do you think I should plan a circuit on top of swim training?
@JayTilleyTV
@JayTilleyTV 3 жыл бұрын
I’d definitely recommend getting a mix of training in and train for purpose, I.e you need to be hitting your running and body weight exercise targets so practice that and then use circuits / weight training for overall conditioning

I know it's a bit of a weird question, but I'll be joining the RM in a few years and I've seen online that you have to eat and drink alot, and I thought well if your off doing training your gonna need to use the bog quite alot and was wondering if they would let you just go off and do it, also is being partially colour-blind a problem in the marines. Thanks

Hey, I was just wondering how much you know about the officers admissions? I'm currently 21, and I'm currently on track to hit all the fitness goals required however, I'm more worried about the academic side of things in regards to becoming an officer. I dropped out of uni after 2 years of studying Dentistry and unfortunately the best job I've had has been McDonald's manager for the last year so I'm coming in without a degree. In the requirements for officer there's no actual mention of any degree and I'm smashing the grade requirements with 9 A*s and 2 As at GSCE and then A* A A B in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Further Maths, respectively, at A-Level. I understand that there's a lot more than just grades that go into the recruitment process but based on this do you reckon I stand a chance of being accepted into the Royal Marine Commando Officer role?
@JayTilleyTV
@JayTilleyTV 3 жыл бұрын
Hi man thanks for the comment, where I’ve been out of the Corp few a years now things may have changed but by the sounds of it you will be well on track to get in. Degrees aren’t a must and to be honest as long as you come across well in interviews and smash your entry tests I’m sure you’ll be fine. Best of luck my man
