@@unfortunately_fortunate2000 Maybe do a trilogy with each game being one Kenway: 1st Black Flag, 2nd Edward in London and the transition to Haytham, 3rd game AC III
@matthewwalker543011 ай бұрын
whilst I agree to the extent that I LOVED Kenway and wanted more, there is an issue as Black Flag and Kenway's story neatly documents the end of the Golden Age of piracy. 1 of the things I truly loved about Black Flag was how historically accurate a lot of the storytelling was. Basically, all these pirate 'characters' (most of them anyway) were real historical figures and their ultimate fates in the game are more or less in line with their real life fates. Bartholomew Roberts, in real life, was the 1 pirate who really held out and caused havoc and, once he was done for, there were just not so many great stories nor characters left - his death is usually used to describe the end of piracy in the Caribbean (even though he died in Africa). So I don't really know where a Kenway sequel would go after Black Flag, not unless it wasn't a pirate game and focused on his return to London but that would defeat the point a bit. They could've maybe done some sort of prequel, as Black Flag hints at his origin story but then just picks up with him already in the Caribbean. Thing is, a prequel couldn't be an Assassin's game because he only discovers the creed at the start of Black Flag. Basically, unless they just invented an entirely fictional cast of characters and history, a Kenway pirate sequel just wouldn't make sense unfortunately. Maybe they could've weaved another story with Kenway that took place in the same timeline as Black Flag, with many of the same characters returning but perhaps focusing on other pirates such as Ned Lowe who didn't really feature in Black Flag, or maybe they could've done Black Flag prequels set in other time periods, such as that of the Buccaneers or the Pirate Round, and used a new main character with Kenway as a rough template. Maybe his father or his uncle or something.

The game has two gameplay scenarios: One is an open archipielago you can sail absolutely free with a top down view of the Black pearl. You can encounter other ships, which will either flee or chase you, you can enter in combat with them and, when weakened, you can aboard and pillage all the goods. The other scenarios are the islands, some linked to the game story, some totally optional. Each one has its own map with different phases which work like a 2D Prince of persia, platforms, hidden areas, a combat system based on basic combos with a decent variety of enemies... You can find gold and treasures which will either grant you more gold or special abillities, and with that gold you are able to upgrade the character (Jack) or the ship with new cannons or sails which affects its stats. It was (and still is) one of my favourite GBA games, and here I am now, many years later, playing AC4 on Nintendo Switch. And I feel like an 11 yo again ❤

Its crazy to think how few pirate games there are, we need a new open world pirate game that lets us travel on land and sea, customise our own ship and name it. Skull and Bones doesn't deliver it misses features that were available in this game.

1:25 I think it could be true that the succes of this game contributed somewhat to ubi making games less assassin-y, but there are some things it does that feel so deeply AC that even other older highly praised AC's dont do that much, that make me love it even more, on top of it already being a great pirate game with AC elements. Edward's journey really reminds me of Altair, but also the villains and the confessions and how philosophical it is adds to it even more.
@natchu9611 ай бұрын
I think AC3 and Black Flag do a great job of how having tunnel vision for some vague "freedom" can make everything worse and cause you to lose sight of what's really important to you. Unlike Rogue which was just hilariously shallow about the conflict, and the Ezio trilogy which played "tenplars bad" completely straight. AC1 kinda touches the issue of the two sides not being so different, but that's a rather different story from watching a guy hit rock bottom on one extreme.

Ironically, the AC game that best replicates Black Flag´s freedom of movement and ocean voyaging is Odyssey. You can swim from island to island in it, you can sink a ship and then dive to get its coffers from the wreckage, sharks will flock to spots where bodies and blood have been spilt, and they are an added hazard... Odyssey´s sandbox is as underrated as Black Flag´s was back then, and I can foresee it getting this treatment in the future.

I did the same thing, been playing Black Flag on deck. It is weird not being able to crouch, which after so many recent AC games with that feature, takes some getting used to. There are parts where the age shows, but it’s still such a masterpiece and a blast to play in 2024. Would love a remaster.

As much as I loved this game, I did think that it was a "Bad" assassin's creed game. It was a beautiful pirate game though. Also I feel that Rogue doesn't get enough attention, as it added a bit of a twist to the black flag formula, with a smaller, less powerful ship, totally different setting that actually felt pretty different and a LOT of AC3 tie in. So in terms of Assassin's creed story, I think Rogue was better, but for pirating, Black flag is so much better. I kinda hope that when they remake Black flag, that they also do something with Rogue, though I understand they probably won't do anything with it...I do love Edward Kenway though, he was such a great character, I wish we saw more of tribute in Syndicate, since they did have a reference to him, but I kinda wish they talked a bit more about what happened after the events of the game.
@FunnyStripes11 ай бұрын
Thank you. 4 was an awesome pirate game, but an awful AC game, both in gameplay and story. And Rogue indeed doesn't get the attention it deserves, with a vastly improved story, much more adjacent (alongside gameplay) to AC. It's so sad it was super rushed and so didn't get the chance for some further polish to everything, and much more content than the ~6 to ~8 hours story we got.

@@FunnyStripes agreed. I was so underwhelmed by everything in IV besides the naval missions...at least Rogue felt like a coherent story. The open world content was terrible though.

Black flag has always been one of AC's best games of all time. It's not my favourite, but when someone else tells you it is, it's hard to mock them. Black flag had awesome ship mechanics, it hit the right spot of not having too overpowered guns and cannons. You are put to the sword when facing those legendary ships (those waves as well). Naval warfare is always fun when you get to mess with man o war's. There is always a ton of treasure maps, secret locations and you can upgrade your hideout. Fishing has always been my favourite part of the game for me, looking for that white whale 😂. WHALE WARS! The story in the first half felt a bit boring, but brought a lot of context into second half. When Edward finally loses a special someone, man i was really captivated and finish the story. And that ending tho... Especially playing AC3 before it, felt rewarding. Felt like the devs knew what the fans were playing and what they were playing it for. My only cons is the combat lacks a bit of finesse, it's decent, maybe that's just me tho. Black flag is the best pirate game, nothing comes close.

It does make you wonder just what kind of internal thought process they must have gone through in order to take the idea of making a game that builds on the popularity of AC4 and its sailing/Pirate gameplay and creating the Skull and Bone live service game that they ended up releasing.
