I was 8 when this song came out, my brother was 5, and our parents who were 60s, 70s, 80s rock fans exclusively. No jazz, no classical, no blues really (other than the Blues Brothers), nothing else really. We heard this song first on one of the NYC music stations they listened to, maybe 95.5 WPLJ or even possibly 104.3 krock. They were and still are very set in their ways, but even they didn't turn this to another station (our car had no CD player either) so I was like wow, must be pretty good and/or mind blowing.
