@@LeChaunce It was PR. They they auditioned for Motown it was May 1968 One Month before Michael's 10th Birthday. I want You Back was released in 1969. It was called by rolling Stone The Best Debut Record Of All Time. If you can check out the Audition you'll be blown away. This was from either The Diana Ross TV Special from 1970 or their "own" Special from 1971 called "Going Back To Indiana". At that time they were The Biggest Black Boy Band in The World. After their success Record Companies and Business Executives created "Groups" to rival them. In fact when The Osmonds recorded "One Bad Apple" they were told to sound as close to The Jackson Five so people would think it was them. It worked and The Song went to Number One. They were supposed to record it but Berry Gordy said No. When he realized his mistake he was horrified. The Songwriting Team was called The Corporation headed by Berry Gordy Jr., and a fellow Songwriter Alfonso "Fonce" Mizell who is not only related to The Ronettes (Be My Baby), but Jam Master Jay. They to this day have been the prototype for every Boy Band US/UK. From New Edition, New Kids On The Block not to mention England with Groups like A1, Five, 911, Damage, and One Direction and Take That. In Ireland it's Boyzone & Westlife.

Yes, “Who’s lovin’ you” is a great song. I also liked “Never can let you go”. I feel so lucky that I was able to witness all that was Michael Jackson’s talent. I remember hearing “Don’t stop till you get enough”. It was the day before my wedding and I was stressed out beyond belief. That song came on the radio and it was the first time I was hearing it. I turned my radio up full blast, had my sunroof open and just danced (well as much you can move while driving, you know what I mean). I let my stress out, it was an amazing feeling! I still get that feeling when I hear his songs - whether with he was with J5, Jackson’s or solo. He was just the best.

You know in this day there would be somebody having a video of you dancing like that 😂 I believe no matter what people think personally of Michael with allegations that were made against him nobody can deny the talent that he had. They can’t take that away from him. Thanks for the wedding story, glad it worked out for you. ✌🏻

Once in a lifetime? That’d mean someone like him every 60-70 years? No way. Someone like him comes along only once, period. It wasn’t only his vocals and dancing, but also his humanitarian work and unrelenting defication to help those in need, especially children. Which, he said himself once while visiting another orphanage, was ”his real work”. It was the whole package, there’ll never be another like him.

JamesInDigital Agreed. To look at this tiny little boy and know he was abused (in today’s nomenclature), makes my heart truly hurt. I read something recently that said (paraphrasing) That was the usual thing in those days. Hitting the kids with ‘switches’ (Not many Australians know what a ‘switch’ is). My old dad hit us with a belt or a hand (not that that is any better-still abusive). It’s little wonder MJ grew up the way he did. Makes me cry just to think about it.

While the focus is on Michael for many people, and he was definitely a jaw-droppingly talented child performer, it needs to be pointed out that his brothers' harmonies are spot on, they're playing some really bitchin' parts while they're singing, and they're dancing choreographed moves while doing it! Excellent choice; "ABC" by them, from the same era would be a good complement to this song. Also, I can't tell you how happy I am for you, now that you are diving headlong into the Motown catalog! I know you will enjoy practically anything you pick from the label; they had a Quality Control Committee, of sorts, that focused on releasing only the strongest versions of their strongest songs. As a result, they had an almost unimaginable number of terrific songs that sold through the roof. If you get the chance, you might try The Temptations doing Psychedelic Shack. There is an extended version on KZbin, where they just let the Funk Brothers groove long after the vocals were done. You get to hear a couple of minutes of the musicians behind the magic jamming, and they were pure magic. What's amazing is that most of the Motown hits you've heard or will hear (until Motown moved to LA and started using The Wrecking Crew) were done by the Funk Brothers in one or two takes. The Motown musicians were something to be reckoned with. Plus you get to hear more of The Temps, an example of what happens when you take five guys who could each front a band by themselves, and put them together in one group. Thanks for many happy shows!

This was their very first hit single. A huge #1 hit. This song is the one that introduced America to the Jackson 5. This is also, remarkably, a LIVE performance. I can hear very subtle differences between this performance and the hit single. But it's so close that a lot of people would never notice the difference. It was alway a good way to gauge how good a band was if they could replicate their studio sound live. And here, they're really, really close. This is remarkable.

The other two instrumentalists were Johnny Jackson (drums) and Ronnie Rancifer (keyboards), who were presented by Motown as the cousins of the Jackson family, but were actually not related. The Jacksons' father and manager (Joe Jackson) just found them, and added them to the group.

Michael was my childhood crush and the Jackson 5 were amazing. We all sang their songs and pretended to be them, even us girls. Best of times.

Mike was one year younger than me. I grew up with four sisters and in our house, there was no escape from the J5! The whole family finally saw them live when I was in the 8th grade. Mike was like a bolt of lightening on stage!

This is the song that introduced the world at large to the greatness.. the single is backed with Who’s Loving You Now, and there is a video of that.. it really showcases his vocals and charm! Michael was 11. He was born August 58 and this performance is from December 69..

Michael was only a couple years older than me, but I listened to the Jackson 5, I had Micheals poster on my wall, along with Donny Osmond, and Bobby Sherman!! Teen Beat Magazine had all my teen love IDOLS. I surely can't possibly leave out another love idol if this time the handsome hunk of all time: " David Cassidy". My mom had bought me and small little record player, and then took me to the local record store, and I bought 9 or 10 45 records of all of the above mentioned singers and my idols records! I played my 45's over and over again and again!! What great memories to look back on. Thank you Jay for your uploads and reactions...🔵🔵🔵

I think he was 11 years old here. I was a couple of years younger, and I just loved him. My friends and I would see in the TV guide that they were going to be on TV - on a talk show or something - and we'd plan sleepovers around their appearances. We were so excited to see them every time! I love that I can watch these videos any time I like now.

This song was released in 1969. Michael was 11 years old (and so was I) at that time. You have no idea what a sensation this song was on AM radio. We were crazy for The Jackson 5. In 1970, my Mom and Dad bought me my first Jackson 5 album, ABC. I played it on my portable record player until I wore the grooves out. 😄

Michael was 11 years old here during this TV special. He was instructed to always say he was 10 for interviews. A major talent even then.... Jermaine was always the brother that vocaled with Michael in many of the early songs. You have to hear him do, WHO'S LOVING YOU by Smokey Robinson.....real talent!!!
