This may be my favourite song. The peak of britpop. And you’re bang-on with the lennon vibes - liam was a massive beatles fan. The lyrics are somewhat incomprehensible - even noel, who wrote it, said he doesn’t really know what it is about, its more the sound that matters,

@@Bekka_Noyb Exactly. Not only the intro of Don't Look Back in Nager clearly being Imagine, but the "Start a revolution..." part of the song is one of the last quotes by John lennon before his death. It also references his week bed in with Yoko Ono in 1969 in protest if the Vietnam War.

Should check out "I'm Outta Time", a later Oasis track (2008, their last album before split-up). Super good and dreamy ballad, the song is also a tribute to Lennon an features a short recorded Lennon speech. The music vid is magical

Great track, with the legendary Paul Weller as guest guitarist. Check out his work with the Jam and the Style Council, as well as his extraordinary solo career. (To get a sense of how Oasis was influenced by Weller, I recommend "Hung Up" from his Wild Wood album, which came out a few years before this. And listen to the title track of Wild Wood while you're at it -- gorgeous song.)

Funny you should mention Oasis and REM in the same post. Noel openly admits to ripping off an REM solo for Whats the story morning glory. Listen to Noels opening guitar riff on that song and you will hear REM's The one i love. From a similar period in British rock/pop music then you should also check out 'Motorcycle Emptiness' or 'If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next' by the finest Band to come out of Wales, the mighty Manic Street Preachers 😍 they supported Oasis on their big gigs at Knebworth and Maine Road in '96..and still going strong to this day, in fact starting work on a new album for 2021 release which will be their 14th. 👍👍

This album reminds me of my young adulthood. I was 19/20 when it was released. I had moved out on my own (well with best friends/roomates) at 18/19 and we were just young gals, starting adulthood. young, working and having fun. This cd (and of course many others) blasting from my room. I would sing this song top of my lungs in shower while getting ready for work hahaha.

Liam's influence is John Lennon, very well observed! Don't forget Richard Ashcroft (lead singer of The Verve), he was also massive for Oasis. Me and my 5 friends used to go to a street in my neighborhood and smoke weed together in my car and play this song while we hot boxed on a weekly basis. I miss those guys... That was about 9 years ago and now half of us have passed away or moved on to bigger and better things. But the time moved faster than a cannonball that's for sure. I miss those simpler days... Thank you for reacting to the best of Oasis as of now. They have few other good songs such as Crying Your Heart Out and several others that I can't recall the name of at the moment. When I first heard this band in the 90s, I really thought they were on to bigger fame than they had but they kind of puttered out with some setbacks. As a Beatles Fan, I can not deny their style of music. They were influenced by The Beatles but in their own unique style.

Oasis were the soundtrack to many peoples youth including mine. So proud. I listened to this with my eyes closed and a huge sile on my face, thanks for playing it, I feel good now.

I have been to very few concerts in my lifetime but I am glad to say that I had seen Oasis live (V Festival 2005) as they are a very important group in the history of British rock music.

I had this as the first dance at my wedding reception in the early 2000's. Marriage lasted 3 years. Still in love with Oasis.
