No, Ronald's comments were not about the Xbox handheld at all. It was only about Windows. He very specifically said that it was about bringing Xbox to Windows rather than the other way around. He was likely talking about bring the Xbox UI to Windows so that it is better suited to gaming handhelds than it is currently. They may still be doing the Xbox handheld that way but he wasn't talking about that.

I'm actually looking forward to 2026 but personally for the Alienware PC / Xbox hybrid version to get the highest end experience available. Thats also the difference between sticking to a set console architecture. Take the PS5 generation as an example. The PS5 was underpowered on release without full rdna 2 capabilities like VRS, VRR and mesh shaders. The PS5 pro then released constricted to the PS5 SDK instead of using a similar SDK to the Series S/X which have full rdna 2 SDK. And the PS5 Pro CPU will be nearly 8 years out of date by 2028. And it was put on sale with no solid performance benchmark being released by Sony. With Xbox, and their upcoming Hybrid model, you aren't constrained to a particular box throughout the generation. If you want the standard Xbox hybrid by Xbox, fine. If you want say a Xbox hybrid a little more powerful, you just match a specification and price point you prefer. Or if you want a top of the range, then you can spend extra and get a machine that will smoke everything available and only need ONE device. The difference is the money you pay will get you the specifications you want and pay for and it will say on the tin before you buy it what you will get and there will be KZbin reviews of it clearly showing benchmark performance results.

If Xbox goes that route and developers have to program for a large range of hardware, Xbox will lose the best thing about consoles, the ability to produce comparably great results on cheaper hardware. Devs can do great things when they know the exact hardware they are designing for but the more they have to design for the worse the results.

Because a lot of people own that specific hardware so engineers can figure out ways to maximize its specs and all the users makes their efforts worth it. Find me a new PC that costs the same as a new Switch that can run the Witcher 3 as well. Why was baldur’s gate 3 delayed on Xbox? Because they had to optimize for 2 different models. Why do so many games run better on a PS5 when the Xbox Series X has the superior hardware? Because the devs spend their time on the place where they can make the biggest improvement for the most people. Why isn’t Black Myth even on Xbox? The more hardware you have to support the less time you will have to optimize for each system. Why was Baldur’s Gate 3 delayed on Xbox? Because they had to optimize for more hardware on that platform. Why isn’t Black Myth out on Xbox? According to the director because they can’t support Series S. Why do many games run better on PS5 than the more capable Series X? Well a big reason is devs spend time on getting the most return on their time and working on optimizing one hardware that a lot of people own is most efficient. How can the Witcher 3 run on the Switch? Because a lot of people own that hardware and it was worth the time to figure out how to get it running there for the large audience. There are many much more powerful PC that can’t run a lot of console games because developers spend the time to optimize console. Do some developers do a good job across the board sure but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have done a better job if they had to focus on less hardware. If you don’t care about the best return on quality for your dollar spent and willing to spend much more to brute force good results, buy a PC. Microsoft could release a Xbox OS while not giving up their ‘console’ business. They would just need to treat the Xbox OS as they do PC now and separate it from their Xbox.

Thats something is on Steam doesnt mean it can be playable on another platform. For example You cant play Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War on GeForce Now even if You can conect there Your Steam account. Sony probably need to allow such move.

Connecting a Steam account or linking isn't the same as actually running Steam. I don't know if that's what you are talking about. However, I believe GeForce Now did once upon a time allow Steam to launched by itself. Of course, I don't know if that would be the case on the next Xbox, but if you could natively run Steam through it, then that would solve the issue you are talking about.

That's for streaming from cloud services though, the license is different. If XboxOS supports downloading and installing games from Steam that would be no different than playing the game on a PC legally speaking.

Steam can be accessed several ways so installing isn't the priority. The cloud services via GeForce now is comparable to Steam installation. Can't block much on the web since no one owns the internet. Xbox players mostly looking forward to actual steam games than Playstation games. Steam also don't need Sony, it's opposite, and attempting to block a game on certain platforms is playing with steam money. Steam going third party for a reason

@@millerman098I finally got it on my original PS5 controller after I used it for a while. After a certain amount of use controllers will get it, even if you take really good care of them. Especially the left stick since that one is used for movement in games so it wears down quicker from what I can tell.

I don't know if it really moves the needle any. The games on PC that don't go to the Xbox require a mouse and keyboard, or a PC to have a decent CPU. You've probably gotten the Xbox OS part wrong. Jason Ronald was talking about bringing existing Xbox OS components over to the desktop Windows which would improve the experience for the PC handhelds which translates to the Windows and Xbox sharing universal dashboard, other UX components, better store experience etc. What won't come to Windows is compatibility with Xbox games simply because of the licencing which is what Microsoft has to solve. Xbox might end up getting a new OS closer to the desktop Windows in the future, but the whole clou of this particular conversation revolved around PCs

I just want to have the option to play my Xbox library on PC and handheld. Don't really care about handhelds but more options the better.
