@@zarmaanful Voltage is just under or just above 1.50v (Have to check bios first for the exact number). Max temps at full load 72c or 161.6 F. At first i also had problems reaching this speed, by using a to high BCLK. If you increase the BLCK than also all other components (except GPU) will be overclocked in your system, increasing the chance of instability. Therefore i have set the BLCK to 100 (lowest setting possible), with a x50 multiplier. And for cooling i use the air cooler "Gamerstorm Assassin III". This cooler is nearly as good as liquid cooling. The difference is only a few degreese in favor of liquid coolers. Please let me know of you get better results, if you are going to try the overclock? Thanks 👍🏻

I built my brother's setup on an Alex desk. At first I was like "oh cool, I can stuff all the cable in the cable management bar, and don't go through the hassle I went through for my own setup !" Then I realised that the setup would be centered, with the monitor excatcly in the middle of the desk, where the slit hole is for the cables to come out... And also that the PC sits half on the desk, and half on the little door that close the thing : If I want to acces the cables, I have to move the screen and the PC. That was not easy to cram everything in without it looking like garbage, but I achieved it, and honestly, once it is done, no need to think about it again... ... until you upgrade something. My brother had a 60Hz screen, anf wanted to go 144Hz. Fine, I mean why didn't he have one already? I let him pick one up online... He chose the cheapest "good" monitor with ajustable height and stuff, a LG panel. I overlooked the fact that the powersupply is not embedded into the monitor, but is an external powerbrick. So, I can't just swap the monitors keeping the same power cable, so I need to remove that cable, therefore moving the PC, etc a fking mess. And then I realised the powerbrick doesn't fit on the powerstrip to allow me to close the fucking door, I had to search for a freakin' power extention to be able to fit it, there is easily 2 to 2.5m of useless cable in that cable management compartment now. Morality : Use the Alex only for laptop setups

Hey now, I'm still running FX processors in my homelab. They work great for running a few k8s workloads and my plex server. I bought this stuff before Ryzen existed and Intel was out of my price range. I wanted cheap and relatively power efficient (compared to actual server hardware) homelab gear and they fit the bill (microcenter bundles ftw). And honestly at this point, it would cost more for me to sell them and upgrade than to just keep running them until they die.

I was building computers for years. Ended up taking 15 years "off"(just had an old XP desktop and at the time a reasonably good laptop) so once I got back into building. I had no problem building it but what I was used to was IDE cables and graphic cards were powered by the PCIe slot(so no cables to worry about internally). I don't know how I ended up watching J2C(4 or 5 years back), but that was when I realized that NOW cases have space behind the MB for cabling. My first 2 builds worked, but looked messy. One was for my Brother-in-Law(he still uses it) the other was my personal build. Well, once I started watching it sent me into some what of a tail spin. I "had" to rework all the cables in my on rig(BiL is still working with the spaghetti wiring, but there's no window so he can't see it). I've since built 3 new personal rigs(although I probably need another few before I've got cable management down) and have been doing decent on cable mgmt. Appriciate You, Kyle and Paul giving some idea what can be done.

A friend literally asked if I was trying to melt something, I now realize that the answer to that question was my PC). I passed the decade mark and realized just how old my CPU was when I started shopping for a new one.

I really don’t understand how so many guys are okay with these kinds of messes. My entire desk, including my PC, is pretty much immaculate at all times and it really doesn’t take much work to keep it that way. 15 minutes of basic cable management work when you’re building or upgrading your PC ends up being the difference between feeling ashamed and feeling proud every time you use it. Also, cable management isn’t only for the inside of the computer. Just a thought.

A video card upgrade to a 1060 also worked wonders for her. Goes to prove your point, that those two are the most significant upgrades. Basically the way the tube's in the res in the picture is; the coolant will 'fall' into the res. Think of pouring a glass of water and it's happening the entire time the system is running. What he's telling the person to do is; shove the top tube further down and so it would end under the water level.

My backup PC is an overclocked FX-8350 with a GTX-980 and frankly if I had to use it to game I could. (with reduced detail in most AAA titles of course) For anything other then heavy gaming or anything super CPU-intensive like video editing its completely usable booting off of a 1tb Sandisk SATA SSD. I had a 240mm AIO gathering dust on the shelf and the thermal paste was super-old so I swapped it in with fresh Artic MX5 and now the system runs great and is noticeably snappier too amazingly. (had a decent Zalman air cooler) With the AIO the FX990 MB holds the mild 4.2ghz all-core CPU OC steadily under load explaining the slight performance bump. Considering this system began life with an FX-8150 & my buddies old GTX-285 in Jan 2012 it doesn't owe me a thing.

FX CPUs may be 10 years old, but if they are still working, I don't think it is worth it to replace most of the components of your computer to switch to something newer. I upgraded to another FX CPU a couple years ago when I needed a better CPU than what I had, but I have an AM3/AM3+ socket, so short of replacing, at the very least, the motherboard, another FX CPU using AM3/AM3+. I just recently had a SATA port on my current motherboard go bad and decided it was time for a new motherboard which meant it was also time for DDR4 RAM, AM4 CPU, and M.2 SSDs. This is of course not cheap, and if my motherboard wasn't having failure issues, I would probably stick with my current setup for another couple of years because it works for my purposes and I don't see the value in throwing out money every time new hardware comes to market because I need the best specs out there.

One thing I would suggest to anyone who's running storage that are getting close to a decade old (hard drive or SSD): You're getting up close to the end of your drive's intended lifespan - if you're going to continue using them, make sure you have stuff backed up! Storage is fairly cheap these days; get yourself an external hard drive or something and make sure everything you really need to keep is on that. It's not a huge deal to set up a new computer if your drives die on you, but you're gonna be really upset if all your stuff is just *gone*.
