That comes from living life and becoming a parent mentally before physically (which most people will never know about) My mom (had me at 18) used to say "better old than young" and, though it pangs me not to be pregnant now, at least I'll be grown when I am and nobody will worry about "what I'm not gonna do for my baby". Too many parents became parents physically before mentally. Parenthood (like marriage) starts in the mind and the fact that nobody really knows that shows why kids are so fkd up and why there will never be World Peace, too many (mental) kids having babies and not enough real parents💔✊🏿✊🏿

Billy Larkin Jazmine's lower range has always been there and quite prevalent. In a 2010 interview with VIBE she talked about how that was the first range to fully develop which is, of course, different from most female artists who develop head registers first. She mentioned how she was ostracized for using it when she first began singing and that producers and others who managed her and her voice felt the edginess and raspy timbre of her voice would be more convicting and unique. I do agree overall she has grown and it's good to see her focusing only on her OWN music now which is quite fresh and nebulous! I'm excited to have the opportunity to see her in New Orleans in March!

TheBlakmajik78 it is a sad state of affairs when the genius of Ms. Sullivan and others like her such as Ledisi and Chrisette Michele go un-noticed, un-heralded and un-celebrated on a commercial level. Lucky for us, they're not deterred by this and still consistently give us great music to live and groove to. Thank you ladies----if no one else tells you, thank you!!

@jazminethomas3619
@jazminethomas3619 9 жыл бұрын
Kawanna Whiting The message was very transparent to me. It was not layered like an onion, every sentiment was easily accessible from the surface, and the lyrics were non-metaphorical. She wrote and sang the song as if coming directly from the viewpoint of one of "those type" of girls, so it was not meant to be deep. Deep songs make you dig down through the depths of the lyrics to discover their true hidden meaning; Jazmine set out to make the meaning of this song abundantly clear from the first line. I want to be clear. I am not saying you are not entitled to your opinion, but I guess the question is; What did you find so deep about this song? What hidden message did you have to search for, or what hidden deep meaning did you find? I am being serious here. The lyrics and the clear point of view from which she sang the song made the meaning immediately clear for me, but maybe I missed something you found. Again, I am not trying to be slick, smart, or funny; I really would like you to respond with the deep hidden meaning you discovered buried in the lyrics.
@Librabeauty
@Librabeauty 9 жыл бұрын
Jazmine Thomas please stop over analyzing this....."I" don't need to explain what I found to be deep about it, it's my opinion. I think we are all entitled to that and "I" don't owe anyone especially a stranger a reason as to why I made the comment, but thanks for your perspective on it though.
@jazminethomas3619

I completely understand that song is satire, but the topic is extremely necessary. I always come back to hear Jazmine’s low notes and riffs because she’s honestly one of the best. Her background singers are on point too

her voice and technique, the background singers, the drummer, the guitarist, and the pianst. all of it put together just made this song ridiculously amazing. the musicianship of it all is what music supposed to sound like.

She and Lalah Hathaway have the best low range. I have no doubt Donny Hathaway would in love with that voice.. So proud she’s another Philly girl...

I love that all these years later she still uses the same background singers! No wonder the sound they produce is so harmonious.
