it's not the range, she has 3 octave range like Toni Braxton for example, I think they have same range. It's the control and agility what makes me love this woman. She's on her own level when it comes to singing, above everyone else.

There is no way Adele and Sam Smith can be heralded as saviors of "real soul music" and can find huge commercial and mainstream success while Jazmine Sullivan can't even hit 500,000 views on fucking youtube. Azealia Banks was talking about a singular situation but she is completely correct in the cultural smudging and erasure that is happening right in front of our eyes. Case in point: Nick Jonas Jealous choir version. Im not saying white artists cannot sing r&b/soul or hip-hop but you cannot deny the benefits of having a white face. Slap a white face on anything and it will appeal to the "masses".
@adaeze6250
@adaeze6250 9 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think you're right. And the thing is, if labels actually put as much effort into the talented black artists as they do the talented white ones (well, talent is debatable concerning a certain someone Azealia Banks called out *ahem*), they might see that they sale just as well. But then again, they might not. There's a lot of internalized racism that people don't realize is there. Take for instance the whole issue with Rue being a black girl in The Hunger Games (even though that's the way she was described in the book). People actually said stuff like they weren't as sad when she died because she's black. Smh
@solargeknowles4354
@solargeknowles4354 9 жыл бұрын
Its also a matter of black people actually going out and purchasing songs and albums. I mean Taylor Swift is being called "the savior of the music industry" because her album just came out November and she already at like 5 million sold. Of course she is one woman, but there is only a handful of black artists who can shift units. The digital age has killed R&B/Hip-Hop as a profitable genre, but our influence is in everything and is catapulted by the digital age. The dichotomy is astounding. At the end of the day we just have to support our black artists.
@adaeze6250
@adaeze6250 9 жыл бұрын
Another good point. We really do have to support black artists, and any artists, really, who are legitimately talented.
@TopLel123
@TopLel123 9 жыл бұрын
Oh please, get real. This song just isn't that good, it's not on the level of what makes Adele and Sam Smith famous, they've consistently released HIT SINGLES and this artist can't even release a single decent single - this was her choice? it's repetitive, not catchy, not fun to listen to, her vocals don't sound as impressive, get fucking real m8. Every single piece music that those other artists release CONSISTENTLY has great vocals, great lyrics, deep messages, good tracks. Compare "Money on my mind" to this. You're honestly fucking delusional if you think this comes in any way CLOSE to money on my mind. She's not a bad artist, but she's not on that level and being black has nothing to do with it, she simply does not have the vocals or the music to make it. And if you want to talk about "racism" I urge you to get real, most popular "musicians" are black. Nobody knew who made "SAIL" and it was in the top 100 for weeks without a face to attach to it, most people don't even look up how a perosn looks when they listen to their music, it's simply a matter of the fact that Jazmine Sullivan is not a good enough artist to pull her weight (pun intended) You retards always want to see "racism" where there is none. It's not about being black or white, it's about not being able to produce good music.

The funny thing is that when you look at the comments for songs like Anaconda and Miley Cyrus' videos you will see a host of persons talking about music being trashy nowadays and no talent being in the industry etc. They don't realize that there are musicians out there with meaningful music If only we paid more attention to these the others would be forced to up their game. But then again music like Jaz's isn't being pushed so there are many contributing factors holding musicians like her back :(

Adele beat her out for best new artist at the Grammy's. I'm not sure how to feel about that because Adele can blow and is a great artist. It just seems Jazmine deserved more exposure and I think that MAYBE, just MAYBE she would have won. I just think the industry thinks she's just another soulful singer and there are and have been and will always be soulful singers..but to have "blue eyed soul" singers, you get an anomaly and it's packaged for mass (and easier) consumption. Let Adele (or insert any "blue eyed" soul singer) cover this song and the views would be through the roof!

Black people are not supporting black artists as simple as that. Its an unfortunate truth. Which makes me upset because you have white artists succeeding off of a sound that was created by black artists and are finding mainstream pop success right out of the gate, while black artists are only limited to r&b/hip hop radio and have to crossover. Its a fucked up situation. you should watch Azalea Bank's hot97 interview. of course that is a singular situation but you can see the parallels when artists like Jazmine Sullivan, Elle Varner, Melanie Fiona are not finding the commercial success that they deserve, and if you slap a white face on it things would be very different.

This woman's skills give me chills.......From her songwriting capabilities to her vocal range, she literally gives me goose bumps and I actually find myself fighting back tears when I hear this song (or ANY song she is singing on really) because I KNOW I have felt the sentiment that she is singing about on more than one occasion. I'm good now in my relationship (I THINK!) but I certainly remember those days when I was in love with someone and desperately trying to hold on to a relationship that was slipping away from me when all I wanted was forever but I got for-never! I can embrace it and laugh now but it was no laughing matter back then. Thank you Jaz.

I had high hopes for us, baby Like I was on dope for us, baby Chasin' after a high that I'd never get back again So we turn into three long years And it became painfully clear that we, We would never see those days again But I guess forever, doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long these days, hey And I tried to believe that we could make it But trying don't work, so I just have to face that forever Doesn't last too long these days, hey Still think about the good times we had And how you used to make me laugh But, baby, I know most times we were miserable So every time I wanna call, baby, what always helps Is when I think of the pain, and I realize I'm better off by myself 'Cause forever, doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long these days, hey And I tried to believe that we could make it But trying don't work, so I just have to face that forever Doesn't last too long these days, hey Lord knows I gave it my all and I couldn't save us from falling 'Cause some people ain't meant to be together forever forever 'Cause forever, doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long these days, hey And I tried to believe that we could make it But trying don't work, so I just have to face that forever Doesn't last too long forever these days, hey

J Brown Adele and Sam Smith are considered as Pop artists too, and that's what the radio predominantly plays - Pop music. If you want to say that only "white" soul artists get the radio time, what about artists like The Weeknd and John Legend? because they are considered r&b and soul artists and get equal radio exposure as adele and sam smith.

I'm so glad she decided not to quit music,but I can see why she would. She's has one of the most angelic voices of this generation,yet she goes unnoticed and is sooooooo underrated. Its sad that music like this has no shelf life because people these days are so absorbed with vanity over quality of sound. That's why we have singers like jazmine Sullivan that don't release music as often as they should because they probably feel unappreciated.. I just wish people would get away from that mainstream crap and listen to some REAL music,maybe that's y the world is so fucked up. Musicians have such an impact on the world,if they would make better music maybe people would act better...wishful thinking,I supposed..anywho,I'm in love with this song already,and its my first time hearing it...I can't wait for her CD to come out!

This is more like it. More soulful. Personal. No flashy sound effects. It's not a "screw you" song. It has meaning. It's quiet and more intimate. This is Jazmine Sullivan I know. That Dumb single was horrible to me It didn't seem like Jazmine and it didn't have much of presence. It didn't flatter her or her singing ability. This song does.

Then you must not know her well as an artist. Because the "Dumb" song is right up Jazmine's alley too. Have you not heard "Bust Your Windows" from her debut album? Holding You Down from her second album? Dumb is all Jazmine too.

Verse: 1 I had high hopes for us baby Like I was on dope for us baby Chasin' after a high that I'd never get back again So we turn into three long years And it became painfully clear that we We would never see those days again Chorus: But I guess forever, doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long these days, hey And I tried to believe that we could make it But trying don't work, so I just have to face that forever Doesn't last too long these days, hey Verse:2 Still think about the good times we had And how you used to make me laugh But baby I know most times we miserable So everytime I wanna call, baby what always helps Is when I think of the pain, and I realize I'm better off by myself Chorus: Cause forever, doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long these days, hey And I tried to believe that we could make it But trying don't work, so I just have to face that forever Doesn't last too long these days, hey Bridge: Lord knows I gave it my all and I couldn't save us from falling Cause some people aren't meant to be together forever forever Chorus: Cause forever, doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long forever Doesn't last too long these days, hey And I tried to believe that we could make it But trying don't work, so I just have to face that forever Doesn't last too long forever these days, hey

What do you guys want Jazmine to be popular or talented. Because in the end this is the root cause for music sucking so badly. We have to decide what we really want. Go to the concerts be there for her and buy the music. This is what keeps her paid not a grammy. those arent even judged by people like us. Most of the people that select these catagories listen to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin if you know what I mean. Ever see those spooky industry photos of Jamie Foxx, Drake and other big artist with them old haggarty devil lips all over their cheeks. That's what that's all about. We have to decide what we REALLY WANT.
