I got to acknowledge Joes, equipment I'm blown away His Hi-Hat Cymbals are truly mesmerizing God almighty I love them and Check out his drums Craviotto This Cat doesn't mess around. The Rolls Royce of drums!!! Beautiful Joe just Beautiful. But that being said I must say that Cymbals Drums Hi Hats Drum heads though important in making your sound they definitely do not have to be TOP Shelf or High End Drums. You'd be amazed as I was watching Drummers of High Reputation and Degrees performing on an SP Set or a Pearl Export. The one thing I've seen all of them do is Change the Heads to Coated Heads Usually an Ambassador Head Coated Resonant and Batter or Top and Botton. Their Tuning of that set to get a Tonal Note without symphonic Buzz from snares. And BD Pedal was essential, Now Stick type wood or Nylon and Brushes most use a thin to medium grade wire not Thick or those with bends in them those are for articulation on Drummers Preference. I'm talking Standard Jazz Brush and ones with a Wire Loop on the end which is used in accentuating cymbal strikes and Drum strikes not Brushes that throw open with plastic ends or ones with a Rubber ball attached there worthless in my opinion. So you can utilize every part of your brush. Next is Seating Position not slouching or Straight up and Down a comfortable ergonomically adjustment were your Kness be parallel with your Bass or Floor toms is my rule not everybodys but mine. And Arm Position, You be surprised how many drummers have to Stretch or Reach for their Ride Cymbal or Toms. Rule of thumb Arms elbows parallel with thighs and You should be able to reach your Toms including floor tom and Ride cymbal with just a flick of your wrists hitting your Toms Dead center not near the rim but Dead Center and your ride that sweet spot usually 2 inch from the edge Snare Drum Position whether you angle it 45 Degrees forward as Steve Gadd does or 45 degress Slumped forward as Buddy Rich use to, Or Level as Joe does Its a matter of Personal taste I've seen drummers use all of these and they play fantastic however some patterns may be more difficult to apply on that certain angles.
