Practically all great jazz musicians played in "dives" before they became well known, they are noticed by someone and then brought to the more celebrated venues. There talent is finally noticed on a grander scale and then they "arrive:" Rita is so versatile, she has a great voice, style and she sings in several languages, and she is great in all of them. I bellieve she will be well known one day. I hope even in the U.S.A.

Merci encore Mademoiselle.

She paid her dues with the SAJB, now, her maturity must surely assure a great future for her. Her command of the trombone is outstanding and her unique vocal style is reaching new heights ... an interesting vibrato is developing ... Well-done, Rita !!!
@ferreiraronald78735 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it's not that easy to gain a reputation and get known, specially in jazz. While she was in the SAJB she had a widely viewed platform. Most of the first wave that left the SAJB (Eva Fernandez, Magali Datzari, Marc Matin......) have more or less fallen into obscurity, all except Andrea Motis. Rita is a fine trombonist and I wish her luck.
@chauncywashington22275 жыл бұрын
Oh, so true. This is the dark side of being a jazz musician. Fade into obscurity, even if you were fortunate to once have had a vision of success and thought you had a future in music. Be prepared..develop other skills too that can afford you a living...there are sharks in the water ready to take advantage of you..promise you everything, never deliver on the promises. Perhaps the best days were the SAJB days, but there is potential here.Persevere..pass your knowledge and skills on....teach, broaden your scope to classic and symphonic where there is some stability. The jazz world isn't that pretty, but it brings joy if you are true to your heart. Follow the dream, but be prepared for anything.
@garryberman8945 жыл бұрын
@@ferreiraronald7873 I partially disagree. Eva is doing fine, so is Rita--Magali does seem to be a bit "lost" in recent years, but she probably needs a competent manager/agent to book her into quality gigs. I think she's going to record a CD with Rita. But most jazz musicians spend their careers touring clubs, not necessarily concert halls. I've seen legends play small, hole-in-the-wall clubs, but that's no reflection on their status as musicians, or their "obscurity."
@garryberman8945 жыл бұрын
@@chauncywashington2227 It's never been guaranteed that every SAJB musician would continue on to a stellar career away from the band. But the original "Fab Four" (Eva, Andrea, Rita, Magali) are doing well--Andrea most obviously--and they're doing their individual touring of Europe and elsewhere, and even get together to collaborate and perform on occasion.
@GaylordBuzzard4 жыл бұрын
Rita is definitely a unique talent. With the exception of Andrea it seems that when the members of the SAJB are no longer under the wing of the magician Chamorro things aren't so easy. Come to think of it, Andrea is still in close association with him and maybe that has something to do with her success. Whether Rita's talent is enough for her to break through I don't know, but I sure hope so.

Gorlan, if you didn't have your head wedged so firmly between your own ass cheeks, and acting like such an ignoramous, you might know that Rita Payes has been considered a world-class jazz trombonist since she was a teenager. Professionals twice her age have been amazed by her talents and her understanding of jazz. Try another video of hers if you don't like this one.
