Here is Fosters Fare, a solo tribute to drummer Al Foster This solo is from the book Modern Jazz Solos For Drum Set by Rich Thompson.
This is one of many published solos I use in my teaching curriculum.
The solo is based on the time keeping and soloing style of Al Foster.
I discuss Foster's influence on jazz drumming and demonstrate some of the more common drumming techniques he used.
I play the solo at the tempo of Half note =106 ( 1/4 = 212) and show you two different camera views. Then I discuss some ways to practice it as well as some tricks for performing this fun solo.
According to the author, Rich Thompson this solo was inspired by the following recordings:

Joe Henderson, The Sate Of the Tenor Volumes 1 & 2
