Great video as always. 🙏 Any tips for attempting the stick shot with left hand matched grip? I think the angle of the stick is more favorable, when playing traditional grip.
@drumqtips
@drumqtips 3 жыл бұрын
With match grip, you just have to make more of an effort to raise the stick but it can be equally as effective. Thanks for watching!

Hi Quincy. This was a GREAT lesson! I'm really glad I subscribed. Thank you for your hard work and sharing. I DO have a question, though. I've noticed that most modern drummers (I've been playing since the early ’70's) who use traditional grip seem to choke up their left hand so it's almost to the end of the stick. With almost no counterbalance, how do you get good rebound and speed? Thanks
@drumqtips
@drumqtips 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply and thanks for checking out my videos. I get my rebound and speed from the web of my thumb and wrist. Good question.

Hi Quincy, Love your videos,I can’t seem to do the stick shot. Is it because I only play matched grip? It seems easier with traditional grip since the left hand is always in more of a up position to stoke it with the right stick. Can it be done with matched grip? Thanks again.
@drumqtips
@drumqtips 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Philip. Check out Bill Stewart. He plays them all the time and only plays match grip.

@@drumqtips One last question. Do you recommend to practice this quiet way (on moongel or Reflexx pad) with heavier (marching) sticks or with regular drumset sticks? Thank you so much!

Derek Scherzer Berlin Heavier sticks will work your wrists well but also use the sticks you normally play with for this. Both work well.

Is it correct that it is possible to execute a stick shot without pressing it into the drum? It seems at 8:18 you can see such an example. I saw a similar example on the channel JazzDrummersResource.
