Heyyyy I know nothing about this band, but I sure love the drummer. He's so tasteful with use of blasts and double bass and his groove is so on point. Has he always played with this band or is he a hired gun? Does he play with any other bands? Is aborted a new band or have they been around for a sec? Anyway any info would be awesome! Thanks!

Ken has been with Aborted since 2010 (last time I checked), but the band itself formed in somewhere around 1995. That's all I know!
@rexlupis3 ай бұрын
As someone else stated, Ken joined Aborted in 2010, but Aborted comes out of the mid-90ies Belgian death metal scene and their first full length album wasn't released until 1999. They've been a solid band for decades and have recruited members internationally over their career. Ken still lives in the US. He is in one other side project currently: Aerith, which he formed with his dad on bass, a vocalist, and Ken plays the drums, guitar and keyboards. They have been a stable line-up since they formed in 2016 and they've released two EPs, one in 2018 and one in 2019. They've also released several singles from 2019 to 2022, but they have a rather short discography. He's not quite a quite a hired gun, with Aborted being his main project since he joined, but he does have some other side projects and gigs with other bands over the years, but only a few.

Yeah they've been around for a while and have something like 12 studio albums under their belts. They have quite a list of former members (the singer is the only original member). They've had something like six drummers over the years, one of whom is currently play drums for Megadeth (Thanks wikipedia). Sounds like a nice pay upgrade lol.

If you want to see another amazing metal drumming performance, check out the drummer Trey Williams from the band 'Dying Fetus' in their live performance of the song 'Your Treachery Will Die With You'. Specifically from the Drummers From Hell KZbin video back in 2016. It's good stuff!

the band was formed in belgium halfway the nineties, with their 1st album release in 1999(the purity of perversion)they have many great albums but the second (engineering the dead) remains one of my favourites. they had many lineup changes over the years .the only original member is the bands founder Sven(vocals). at the time he was a friend of a friend,so i met him a few times in the late 90's.

you may also want to check out the recent live video from Kevin Paradis on his channel (same name) for the band Benighted, the whole performance is an hour long but any song from it has a lot of crazy stuff going on, if I had to recommend any in particular I would say either "Scars" (first song) or "Nothing Left To Fear" (fourth song)

I've never listened to this band before. I dig 'em! 🤘 And I don't think I've ever seen a drum video of someone using that swivel technique but it makes so much sense for blast beats. Is the idea that it reduces shin splints? Also it tickles me every time I see a drummer with feet blasting away like they are driving a Flintstone's car but up top they are so calm.
@Dark_satellites3 ай бұрын
Their older stuff is faster and thrashier, their more recent stuff is definitely more groove-oriented. They're always solid though!
@Kerosian13 ай бұрын
swivel just keeps you switching which side of the calf muscle you use, so its big bonus is relaxation at higher tempos. Thats why ken can blaze the 16ths while looking like he's waiting for a bus.

Loved it! Haven't listened to Aborted in a while... nice to be reintroduced!! And hey, you know who ELSE looks like a barista? one Kevin Paradis of "Kevin Paradis - Benighted - Nails - Exclusive Drum Play-through" fame! 😉 I know I know he's already on your list but he really does look like a barista, so I couldn't resist. 😂

Great band, Ken is a machine always makes it look effortless. Careful with your scream attempts gotta protect those vocal cords. Still waiting on that Dan Presland and plagues flower the kaleidoscope studio play thru reaction 😅 also the Starbucks employee reference is hilarious. And Jazz drummers are actually metal drummers in disguise 🥸 they just don't know it yet.

Let me sway you away from Zildjian. My neighbor behind me uses an 18in k sweet crash. Same as this drummer. He finally knocked on my door and was curious.. My paiste pst 8 blew that crash away. Even he was really surprised. The k sounded dirty, harsh, and brash. It might have been a fail in consistency, which paiste is known to be #1 in. Once I put on the paiste 2002 thin crash, he was sold on Paiste. The shimmer and clarity with Paiste is just hard to match. Meinl gets the closest to it.
@yarpyarp853 ай бұрын
My man, I always forget paiste… I do love there cymbals but mostly there crashes (they are so beautiful and musical and like u said consistent in sound.) I just haven’t been able to find enough rides I like… I really love traditionals and the masters sound soooo good ( I will definitely own a bunch one day) but my heart is always with Zildjian, they just have such a unique collection and a vast range of sounds, that I personally like. And Meinl is just amazing, expensive buuut amazing, I literally want almost every set of rides and hi hats they produce, such inspiring instruments. Don’t get me wrong Paiste is absolutely amazing and beautiful. Definitely solid 3rd place for me. 😉😉😉

Funny how we arnt even mentioning Sabian. I still love the legacy and evolution stuff buuut that’s it. Sabian coming in in a distant 4th. Lololol
@FerristotheBueller3 ай бұрын
@@yarpyarp85 paiste used to be the most expensive until recently. Go look at Sabian prices...Also, I meant to mention that Sabian is just too similar to Zildjian. Seems to be Paiste and meinl tbdh. A great Paiste ride would be the rude 20 in pwer ride because of how versatile it actually is. The secret in the Paiste are the 2002 thins as well as giant beat multi and thin. Peak shimmer and clarity. I also hit an 18 inch evolution crash at Sam ash years ago and decided to never go with Sabian lol. I'm sure it would of recorded fine and been fine behind a wall of guitars. Not as bad as the sweet crash. But both cymbals not on par with even midrange Paiste cymbals. Also, not sure if you lnow of Btbam. You should do a vid on Blake Richardson if you really wanna be blown away😂

Check out Aric Improta of Night Verses. He is one of the most creative drummers ever. He has a video Blur Lights in the Videodrome that is 39 minutes of crazy on the Meinl cymbals page. It's more than a little long for this format but he has a ton of shorter content on his channel. I know everyone says "hey check so and so out he's a beast" or w/e, but this guy is nothing like anything you've ever heard.

Well you got a new subscriber! Saw a few of your reactions and i like it! I scrolled through your reactions and saw that you haven't reacted yet to the man that got the nickname The Atomic Clock! Yep, im talking about the legend Gene Hoglan and than especially a drum cam video of him doing one of his old bands, Strapping Young Lad with the song Skeksis, here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5bEeqmea6p_jMk because this way you don't have to search for it. Have a awesome week and im curious about all the other reactions. PS: If i may have another suggestion.. one of a very overlooked drummer that not a lot of people react to because he only have 2 or 3 good drumcam videos, but Nicholas Barker from the bands Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Brujeria, Lock Up and a lot more other bands did one song live for the bands Anathema and there you can see his absolute talent in how good of a drummer he is, kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zne9pGyBi5qNb5Y
