what does "trading" mean in this context? I keep encountering this term lately...

Thanks for your question and for watching! Trading fours simply means that the drummer takes turns playing solos with other musicians in the band. For example, the Sax plays a 4-measure solo and then the drums play a 4-measure solo. This usually continues on for at least one chorus (or song form).
