As a guitarist I will tell you how most of us feel about him. We look at Satriani, Eric Johnson, and so many others and we wanna learn everything they do so we can be like them at some point. We look at Stanley and we say 'nope, not happening'

I heard Stanley Jordan live at the Apollo in 2003 at the annual “A Great Night in Harlem” to benefit the Jazz Musicians’ Emergency Fund. So many great musicians, but Stanley Jordan stood out as a star among stars, a rare talent in a league of his own. Truly incredible, he gave a mind-bending performance. I was lucky to have passes to the after the event and met him and basically gushed and told him he was a genius and that I was blown away by what he could do with the guitar. He was humble and tolerated me, thanked me. In this video he is still humble and amazing, a true gift to the world.

Quincy Jones discovered him playing on a street corner! Thought he was a really good guitarist playing to a tape of either himself or another really good guitarist! Turns out he was playing both parts at the same time through a boom box! Stanley's' double picking or tapping technique is unusual! He uses the callus on his fingers as picks!

I've been a fan since the late 80's. Always amazed me that one person could play rhythm and lead at the same time. If you did not watch this, you would think that there were at least 2 people playing.

There are quite a few players around doing things like this but the music comes first here. The arrangement is not compromised. You see a lot of acoustic guitar players just falling back to playing open chord tunings with very guitar-specific tonality rather than just performing a good arrangement by any standards.

I always loved this song in Blind Date. Wonder whose idea it was to involve him? Maybe Bruce? Anyway, this song always makes me sad and melancholic and reminds me of my ex, cause I saw Blind Date with her once... I love how he closes his eyes and just FEELS the music...hate those people who make fun of people who sing with their eyes closed...or who wont feel touched by this!
