I've replayed Jazz 1 quite often through my lifetime and I really can see each religious level perfectly reproduced in Doom format. Also the Jazz 2 references. I never thought i would be hyped for something that is a mod for the granddaddy of FPSs, Jazz Jackrabbit was my first and potentially favourite platformer, seems that i was 5 years old yesterday playing it on the Win98. Thanks MODders for bringing back a very great game in the form of a mod. Such nostalgia!

I played this on Ultra-Violence and those turtles in the tanks are quite different. Same firepower but they stole Dr. Robotnik's supply of his egg-shaped hovercrafts. So they're a wee bit harder to deal with.

Most impressive, very retrospective TC i have ever played. But since it's in First Person now, it's hard to tell if the enemy is attacking you from behind or not. They basically don't play the sight sound. But other than that, it's great! Jazz right here, is literally breaking a leg!... Turtles' leg.

This is a real treat for a Jazz fan like myself indeed, buuuuuut being one also comes with some nitpicks of my own: -The Bouncer is quite weak because in the original has a more useful propose because well its 2D and its usefull for enemies like the Sparks (yeah that's the name of the floating electric eyeballs) they go through the level and most of the time they are quite hard to hit if you dont do it inmediatedly you have them in range, they act as the Boo's in Super Mario just that they are sentient electric sparks of energy. I always thought if Jazz 3D was a thing this weapon could had been like the Quake grenade launcher but with options of upgrading it with different elemental cell properties like a ice grenade, an incendiary grenade, a wind grenade that when explodes generates a mini tornado, because just translating the bouncer as it is in Jazz Jackrabbit, yeah is just a peashooter but instead of going straight it bounces off walls. -The Toaster is a "fireball launcher" instead of a flamethrower its the first Rocket Launcher in the game, but its just a slightly beefed up Blaster but with a bigger projectile, never used it in the original game because well its just a bigger blaster anyway, the flamethrower variant here is quite nice but i could loved if the main fire is this big flaming ball of destruction that when impacts leaves a firey shockwave behind and does splash damage and catches enemies on fire in the process, and the secondary fire being this flamethrower. -Im not sure about Jazz having different kinds of weapons instead of having different types of ammo for his LFG-3000 (yeah that's the name of the big blue pencil weapon he has) the weapon in canon is supposedly to be multi-function and having the ability of using all kinds of ammo (a lazy way of saying "we aren't going to take the time of doing all sorts of different running animations and such with different weapons so a omni weapon it is!") take for example the cancelled Jazz 3D he has his LFG-3000 Blaster but he finds 2 different "cells" that proceeds to give you different types of firepower if you mix and match with other weapon "cores", also Jazz having a straight up Uzi reminds me of Jazz Jackrabbit Advance and the only thing i liked from that game was the pink rabbit gal the rest can go an burn in a fire for all i care. -Supposedly you fight Devan the main antagonist from the games at the end of each world as like some sort of Robotnik (Eggman) fight and each and every one (except for the Metal Sonic Jazz robotic ripoff fight) are exactly as easy as they are here, just keep shooting and avoiding the easy to remember pattern of attacks and you are golden each and everytime, so they nailed this one out at least, but i was expecting you had a fight with a boss that could use the 3D enviroment at its advantage like having hazzard enviromental attacks, the stage changing as the fight goes on, the enemy starting to change to try to beat you and so on. -Also i love Jazz and its my always to go character of choice in any of its games but no Spazz? no Lori? not even making Eva Earlong like getting tired of being kidnapped and then grabbing a gun and going full on Daisy on those shelled bastards? like total Medievo on their asses (and no Spazz and Lori arent Jazz children i think they are his brother and sister, at least with Spazz i used to know he was his brother so i dunno if im wrong here or things changed since Jazz 2)

Hey Icarus, got a good mod that you haven't covered and just got it's last update. Doom RPG SE is a salvage project of a dead mod that adds a ton of content, a hub, includes the Roguelike Arsenal and Rogelike Monsters support, mods that can enhance or transmute guns, summons, turrets, overshields. I've been using it with the Maps of Chaos and it's been great, going to be trying it with Oblige and ObAddon to create custom maps to make it a more expansive experience. LegenDoom lite can still be used to make random monsters legendary. Alltogether it's a joy of a mod and has become my preferred go to just because of how much is there. Random loot containers with RNG items and a hacking system give it a bit of a borderlands vibe. If you do play it, a tip on hacking a box: every pip does something good accept for the orange ones, the green pip is what unlocks it. There's no manual, so that system is a tad non-intuitive without a good bit of experimentation.

Here's my minor nitpick if you're finding yourself a little short on them. When a mod total converts like this, little things like not making a unique set of switch graphics kinda stand out like a sore thumb. Minor again- I mean the original Jazz had mechanical switches kinda like that so I get why the creator didn't reinvent the wheel, but still it's the one thing that stood out to me. Banana out of 10.

Here's a nitpick: Guns look WAY too detailed for such cartoonish environments. Let's not forget classic Jazz's gun was little more than a blue tube that kinda resembled a permanent marker. Furthermore, I don't recall that many enemies in JJR that really gun for the player. I realize this is a Doom mod and that's what Doom enemies do, but they don't seem to mesh too well with the playstyle of Jazz Jackjabbit, giving it a much different identity. :/ -Mad Wolf
