My name is Jens Larsen, Danish Jazz Guitarist, and Educator. The videos on this channel will help you explore and enjoy Jazz. Some of it is how to play jazz guitar, but other videos are more on Music Theory like Jazz Chords or advice on how to practice and learn Jazz, on guitar or any other instrument.
The videos are mostly jazz guitar lessons, but also music theory, analysis of songs and videos on jazz guitars.

I think it’s when you learn this you start to understand jazz isn’t necessarily complicated - it’s just a sound of flow toward chord tones.

if its not too much, can you explain which notes would act as enclosures? I know leading notes would be the 7th to each triad note
@JensLarsen
@JensLarsen 11 ай бұрын
Try this video, around 3:30 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKPMkmethc6qmqM But be aware that an enclosure is anything that ends on a target note from above and below.

I have a question. I’m a very basic blues player but I’m always found playing three frets up of whatever note I’m actively playing sounds cool. (Minor 3rd I believe) Am I applying this principle because I’m not following a particular scale of notes? For example if I played these notes on a single string 7-10-7-10 5-8-5-8 0-3-0-3 I know the “8” isn’t part of the minor pentatonic scale but it sounds cool when I throw it in. So am I ignoring scales when I play a note and then three notes above back and forth?
@JensLarsen
@JensLarsen Жыл бұрын
Depends on the context, so I can't really tell in a comment, but if it sounds good then that is enough
@za4310
@za4310 Жыл бұрын
If played on the high e, all of the notes listed belong to both the g major scale and c major scale, both very common keys for guitar based music. G is the relative major for the key of E minor and therefore contains all of the same notes, and C is the relative major of A minor. E minor and A minor are two very common keys for guitar based blues music. Theres a good chance you're playing in those keys when you're playing blues, and the minor thirds you're choosing to play fit into the scale. There are other minor thirds you could play that would not and they might sound a bit sour. For example, if you also added 3-6-3-6 to your set of minor thirds... Neither E minor nor A minor contains that note on the 6th fret of the high E string. You will have a minor third that brings you outside the key. Thats a valid choice if you like the sound! But it would be much more consonant to play a major 3rd in that situation, going from 3rd fret to 7th instead. I recommend you look up the c major and g major scale on google. Find a diagram that maps the scale across the entire fretboard, and you will be able to see where your intervals fit into it like puzzle pieces. The notes from your pentatonic scales will be there too!
@jefferychen8129
@jefferychen8129 Жыл бұрын
Playing a major pentatonic scale 3 frets higher moves you to the parallel minor pentatonic scale, which often works in blues since the key is dominant
