I always feel bad for an actor who has to step into beloved shoes. This lady did well with what she was given. Problem is, she wasn't given squat. Her character got flattened out, made into a nice little wifey instead of the powerful woman she was before. It's a hard situation to be in, navigating waters that someone else has charted, with the crew that originally sailed them.

Amber Mck “Breaking the fourth wall” is a term in TV and cinema that refers to breaking character or breaking from the script, or even acknowledging something the viewer sees that the characters aren’t meant to acknowledge, I.e. the change of cast to fill a role previously filled by a different actor. Jazz referenced that Viv was different because the actor had changed, and Will looked at the camera directly at the viewer with a look as if to say “he wasn’t meant to acknowledge that” hence breaking the fourth wall.

+Will M-Venom Perfect way to put Daphne. She was just THERE to fill the void of being a mother. Dry and not entertaining. Unlike Janet who was ALL OF THAT!!
@SuperSparrow457 жыл бұрын
Indeed, but that was likely the plan. They had to fire Janet because she couldn't get along with anyone and was impossible to work with.

A show where you can't help but love every character. From Jeffery's one liners, to Jazz showing up just to be tossed out, to Hilary's unfiltered mouth, to Carlton being a scene stealer, to Uncle Phil being everyone's favorite dad, to the two Vivienne's both being great, to Ashley's sweetness & of course Will being amazing. Even the secondary cast is so good.

@purpledawn27274 жыл бұрын
@Jeremy Dixon I don't think one was necessecarily better than the other. The two Viv's were just written differently. The new Viv did the best with what she was given. It made sense for them to write her different though. If she were just doing an "original Viv impersonation" it would just end up beiing weird and I guess she would get criticism for that too.

You can't blame the actor for the role and moreover if he/she has to replace a beloved character. Usually if a sitcom is successful the audience loves the original character. But if for some reason the second aunt Viv was the first one, the people would be like, "oh this new aunt Viv is so aggressive and trying to cover the presence of the other characters".

I get the feeling when Jazz said "You know Mrs. Banks since you had that baby. There's something different about you." wasn't in the script. That's why Will gave the side eye to the audience. I get the feeling Jazz didn't even know there was a different actress playing Vivian until he got on the stage. LOL

@sja34993 жыл бұрын
Now its stupid. The media pressures shows to add minorities and if they dont they get called racist. Im all for minorities being shown (as I am asian) but its dumb how shows/movies feel like they have to include minorities or they will get backlash. An actor shouldnt only be appointed to a role if they suit it not bc they need minorities to keep the media happy

The show would have been better if they didnt have an Aunt Viv once Janet Hubert left the show. The second aunt did not have any real connection with the audience. If you look at season 5 and 6, there were some episodes she wasnt in them and went unnoticed.
@DoubleKnotts11 жыл бұрын
Really? It would have been better? She was fired after the pregnancy, so the only logical way to remove her from the show is by killing her off. And the only logical way for that to work out would be maternal death. That would plague the show for the rest of its existence. It *would not* have been better.
