this is great. I never see other youtubers get to appreciate Tribe this much, and QTip is truly a genius in terms of production. They are considered "jazz rap", and The Low End Theory is a masterpiece of an album.

Classic. Agree with the above - their first few albums are all great, my favorite being Low End Theory. I think "Jazz (We've Got)" would be a great one to react to.

Most of their samples come from jazz. I would say they are one of the main reasons I got into jazz/funk as i got older.

One of my favorites of all time! I can attest that it is very fun rapping along to this song. Tribe was known to sample jazz very heavily, I would recommend doing some other of their songs as they might have some good aspects to breakdown/play along to as well!

there are several videos on here that break down where each sample of Tribe songs came from-it's of jazz records in Tip's crates

You should check out some of The Roots early material. I highly recommend Mellow My Man. Fantastic jazz elements in that song.

A Tribe Called Kwest helped raise me 😊.. I was 12 when this came out. When I was old enough to listen to "my own" music vs what my parents allowed. The 90's for me was really the best decade for music of all kinds. We had club, reggae, reggaeton, house, no bitin hip hop and even rock fused hip hop.

8:58, you’re right, it’s very fun to rap along. Took a few days in 10th grade to learn it. Well, worth it.

Brother Jack McDuff's Oblighetto (from the Moon Rappin album) was sampled in this. As a Jazz-dude I'm sure you've heard that album. If not it, it it's highly recommended.

Q-Tip once sampled Joe Pass' version of "Giant Steps" and used it for his solo song "We Ride". It's very cool.

The Low End Theory is an incredible album.
@dreww1609 Жыл бұрын
That was awesome! Usually 2 schools of thought amongst Tribe Fans - critics consider the album this track is on "Low End Theory" not just their best but maybe the best east coast old school rap album ever made (SO much jazz in it), and other like myself prefer - while loving the other A LOT - the follow-up "Midnight Marauders" to be their peak most consistently incredible album. If I had to recommend a track from it, "Electric Relaxation" is one of the all time great beats/production/flow masterpiece that'll still be listened to in a century. If it doesn't make you feel zen with the Universe not sure what will. Another - of so many artists from the 'Golden Age' of hip hop who are HEAVILY jazz influenced, especially on their albums "Do You Want More" and "Things Fall Apart" are The Roots, considered the first and really only true rap "band" with all of their sounds played live, using beatboxers and even voice scratchers to emulate scratch sounds, let alone the horns, bass, etc. Give 'The Roots' a listen if you can, they also have some the top lyricism of the era and of all time.

fantastic review and glad you felt the impact and force of that song. i grew up in the same neighborhood of Jamaica Queens as Tribe, but moved to the burbs of VA when the album dropped. it was my piece of home i was able to have that brought me back. Scenario is just their possee (group of guys) cut with the people from their hood. Many classic Rap albums have possee cuts such as Live At the Barbecue which was the 1st rap record Nas was on and then the greatest which is Marley Marls Symphony which you would enjoy doing a review on both those songs. Do more tribe reviews too. Peace

I figured this song had to be coming on your hip hop journey...one of my favorites. I remember being in elementary school when this song came out and my parents freaking out when I blasted it in my room lol. Busta's verse is one of the best ever in hip-hop. Only rivaled by Inspectah Deck's opening verse on Wutang's "Triump" track.

Yaaayyyyy! I told you they were awesome! By the way, I like your song, I've written several similar myself. OK, beep, beep, here comes the dump truck of unsolicited information. They're from NY. They include little NYC tid bits in several songs. An argument in my house exists still on why Phife is Phife & I say it's because of his height. In "Check the Rhime" he says - "by the way my name's Mailk, the five foot freak", and that is how I came to that conclusion. "Scenario" was a breakout for Busta Rhymes, who was 19 at the time! Anywho, The drums are sampled from "Little Miss Lover," by Jimi Hendrix. Other bits in the song come from "Oblighetto" by Brother Jack McDuff. Also, "Vivrant Thing" is a great solo Q-Tip track, in case you want another track to react to. 😉
