Her vibrato is RIDICULOUSLY good.

Love her music. For me, she's a gateway to Jazz for the newer generations, but her music isn't Jazz. It's a combination of mid century pop music with Jazz, more like a Broadway & disney musical with jazz influences.

This is jazz. Jazz is not one kind of music. Get over yourself dude.

the first song is straight up Bossa Nova, but not all of her songs are. You can't really categorize a person's entire discography as jazz or not, you have to go on a song by song basis

@@dimman16 Not a single thing the original comment stated was 1) wrong or 2) rude. Why don't you take your own advice and get over yourself.

Just recently I realised how much I like what she does. I have no real knowledge of Jazz... classical piano was always my music, but when I listen to Laufey there are so many moments that I can't help but remember the black & white musicals from the '40s and '50s that my dad would always watch on a Sunday afternoon, when I was a kid in the '60s.

Listening to her sing while playing the instruments i felt like being transported back in time recalling the classic films of old i've watched as a child . Almost being hummed to sleep voice and music sounds heavenly .violinists nice to watch and listen to their sound too.

On her spotify page you can find some playlist she made with her favorite musicians :)

Thanks for the very interesting reaction. I enjoyed the reaction, very much enjoy Laufey's music, and, like you, I was intrigued by the violinist's eyes and expressions. 😏

thanks for reacting and reviewing laufey’s tiny desk concert. for the question: is it jazz? as someone who used to study classical piano, laufey’s songs are good gateway to jazz for ppl who know nothing about jazz

Yes, that's a good way to put it!

It’s like listening to Billy Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald combination in the 1920’s era.

It amazes me how fluent Laufey is in English, given that she’s Icelandic

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the improvisational aspect of her performances seem to be limited to her voice. For a self-described "multi-instrumentalist" I’m a bit disappointed in the lack of any instrumental solos from her.
