Hi Greg, I was just listening to Au Privave by Jimmy Smith (1958) and my ears pricked up when I heard the lick you demonstrate at 3:12 pop up at 3:06 in that recording! It really is all over the place!

It's a mixture of a bugle call and 5/6 blues shuffle.

What is the left hand bass scale for the lick, at 3:08? It might be something basic of jazz piano but, I'm pretty new to this and that lick intrigued me!

could you help me with this? the turnaround at 3:27 before going back down to the 1, you do a cool descent F-Eb-B-Bb-Ab-G: on what scale is it based? i know its supposed to be a G7 but it doesnt look like it, is it a diminished?

+razead nevermind... GOT IT, its the minor 5 of the tritone of G7, which is Ab minor which makes sense cause the minor 5 of the tritone is a common harmonisation for a dominant 7! great lessons keep them coming!

Kudos for the Video! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about - Riddleagan Smart Hands Remedy (do a google search)? It is a great one off product for learning piano fast minus the normal expense. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my close friend Aubrey at very last got cool results with it.

You aren’t finishing the concepts you have started. You are just flowing from idea to idea, good licks but not good Teaching.

Perhaps you're hard of hearing? He said loud and clear that this was a customised lesson commissioned by someone who wanted an analysis of a line he had played in a previous video. So rather than explore a single concept in depth, he was going to analyse the line, which entailed identification and brief explanations of the different concepts used. Isn't it silly of you to then come along and complain that he didn't "finish the concepts"? Even so, he managed to provide succinct sufficient explanations and even exercises for each one. But it's true that he is presuming a minimum level of intelligence.

@@sheilamacdougal4874 would you like to p.m me and continue this, or even better meet and discuss/play , considering that your are so brave and mouthy? I mentioned to him that his kicks are good, but the deliverance of teaching style needs work. Constructive criticism.

@@fortemusic167 Your "constructive criticism" is wrong, for reasons I already stated. I have nothing further to add. Thanks but no thanks regarding your invitation.

@@sheilamacdougal4874 that’s okay for you think that I’m wrong, but I teach all levels, 6days a week and I know that if I delivered lessons, moving from lick to lick, without thorough detailed explanation, then the student will take in nothing. Better to master one or two ideas in depth than take in 5. Anyway thank you for declining my invitation, have a great day,
