Tus videos son increíbles. Yo no sé hablar inglés, apenas entiendo 1 de cada 10 palabras, con suerte, de lo que decís. Sin embargo, musicalmente me resolves todos los problemas de la vida

This is the type of theory I care most about and have a hard time finding a good book on. I've gone to and from learning sight reading but I am not interested in that. *this* is what I'm after! Can anyone recommend me a good printed book with this type of theory. I love that there seems to be a term or definition for everything!!

Dunno why but for me its particularly hard to hear the bass notes of a chord. Like I usually can hear some of the middle voicings but oftentimes I cant hear the bass notes

What is a G7 (USb6) chord? What does that mean? Also do you have any resources to apply this lesson to guitar? It's excellent but I find it much harder to revoice chords on guitar to change each independent voice.
@ELLo19974 жыл бұрын
US stands for upper structure. USb6 means you play a triad on the b6 scale degree of G (which is a Eb major triad in our case) over the G7 chord itself. This upper structure technique is used (mainly by pianists I guess) to create interesting tensions, like for example the USb6 is used to voice altered chords since the b6 triad contains the b13 and the b9. Other US possibilities are for example US2 for #11 chords or US6 for b9 chords.

Sir: Will you please explain what is G7(USbV) in Lay man's terms. In the time set 13:33 you play the notes of the chord: B F bD E A, however in the Chart the notes that are listed are B F bD F A. please can you explain it I am so fascinated by this. I thank you again. Bravissimo. R

If i remember right, in classical, parrallels are forbiden only when they form octaves or fifths. Great explanation, thank you.

Yep, that's right. And moving all the voices in parallel is also discouraged (at least one should be oblique or contrary). No worries.

To be honest, I never comment on videos and I think you were about 67% accurate with most of your statements and pedagogy; however, I think you need to work harder to share the principles you are using as educational instruments without the homage to the "jazz" idiom. Even if you are trying to make a video about "jazz," you should really avoid saying "jazzy" or "jazz chords." There is no such thing as "jazz chords" or "jazzy chords." There are "jazz" songs and tunes, but the harmony used to make them and the voice leading devices (ii-V7-I) are hundred of years old. Just because someone uses more fingers to play more extensions for added color within a given voicing does not make "jazz." i think your "law of conservation of energy" is also entirely bullshit as well and most I am referring to specifically the naming of that education instrument. Really, one should use all of their energy as efficiently possible to convey the idea they are trying to share with a given audience. Conservation is a poor word choice. "Energy Management" or "Economy of Energy" convey what I think you are trying to say just a little bit better. If you really wish to explain this idea within a "jazz" context, I think you should explore talking about the b6 above the root of a given tonality (Major and minor), how the b9 of a V7 in a minor key relates to the relative Major, and using and harmonizing 8 note scales ("bebop" scales; ones that include passing tones and when building 4 note voicings from thirds on each scale degree add diminished chords where they weren't before). I think the methodology presented here is cheap and falls short of conveying any truly idiomatic representation of "jazz." TLDR: find examples on records and use those examples to explain your point rather than vainly saying that something is "jazzy." It is not jazzy because despite the practical application of harmonic devices you present, you are not playing it with the correct feel, mannnn.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZqwfWeYq69-aZI I think you should reference this. Also, "jazz" is not "generally" homophonic. That is an absolute bullshit statement.
