New Jersey's Princeton Record Exchange also known as PREX, is one of the finest used vinyl and CD stores in the northeast USA. When they get in a new collection they send out a teaser video, which brought me to the store one morning this week.

Wow, what an incredible record store. Also, great score on the Lee Konitz LP. To get a copy of that LP in that kind of condition for $120 is worth the price of admission right there. Really great video Ken, please keep them coming. Cheers! "TWELVE BUCKS!!!" My freakin' head is about to explode. 🤯 I just saw that very Winton Kelly LP go for $60 yesterday. I'm going to start crying in minute. 😫

Great haul there Ken. I'm missing being able to search on the wild for great bargains at record stores and fairs in England due to lockdown over here. Buying online is ok, but you can't beat going out to make new discoveries.

Cool video Ken. Seeking out big collections like this from people that clearly cherished their records is the top thing that makes collecting fun. It is honestly the feeling I keep coming back to over and over again haha. Thanks for continuing to make these interesting videos Ken.

Tremendous haul. Princeton has great prices. I saw the video they posted but sadly could not get down there. Last Year they got in a collection of classical London Blue Backs. When i got there 2 days later,every single one was gone . You just got to hit them right. Obviously you did . As always great video. Thanks Ken

I wear my headphones at night... cuz everyone else's sound is shit. I don't know much about jazz but my ears perk up when I hear Count Basie's name. I got a 70's release called Jam Sessions that has an absolutely cookin' opener.

When the owner of Princeton record exchange was shooting the video, he flipped fast past Mose Allison's Local Color. I replayed it several times and finally could make out what it was. At first I thought it was "When Farmer met Gryce." I always thought PREX was always picked over too much even for cds. There was very little back catalog classic soul on cd. There was a decent amount of jazz imports but the Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Hank Mobley sections were sparse to say the least on cd. Major label jazz tends to be discounted. Great if that is your taste but with exception Coltrane and Bags on Atlantic, I find major label jazz quite uneventful (ie most Verve titles)!

I only go to Prex when they get a big jazz collection. It's uniformly a waste to time otherwise. Revilla blows it away oh a day to day basis, but he doesn't do videos to bring in the locals, he just puts out the LPs and you have to be lucky in there at the right time. I love Verve, and there's great stuff to be had from RCA and Columbia, which has that guy Miles Davis
@DorianPaige00
@DorianPaige00 5 жыл бұрын
@@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455 Columbia and Davis were a bit of an exception. I have Sonny Rollins "The Bridge" on RCA but thought his stint there was overrated unlike his stuff with Prestige. Miles was better album for album with Prestige. I couldn't get into "Sketches of Spain", "Porgy and Bess", "Quiet nights", and anything post "In a silent way". I much more prefer Miles' earlier stuff or even Lee Morgan.

@@DorianPaige00 Basie, Joe Newman, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Fats Waller, all the great stuff from Duke on Bluebird, Oscar Peterson, Django, Al Cohn, Teddy Wilson, Mingus, Sonny Meet Hawk is a classic, some of the greatest musicians in jazz, if all pre bebop, were on RCA. The Bridge is overrated?
@DorianPaige00
@DorianPaige00 5 жыл бұрын
@@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455 I thought Sonny Meets Hawk was rather bizarre. It had Don Cherry on trumpet, Billy Higgins on drums, and Paul Bley on piano who loved to sing his lines like Errol Garner. All three worked extensively with Ornette Coleman and his free jazz style. Hawk and Rollins appear in different speakers and cover an album of standards. I'm surprised Hawkins didn't have a heart attack as most of his Prestige releases are rather mellow and make Moodsville look like a swinging affair. Hawkins always had a deep, dark texture to his playing as he was very different from Lester Young and Charlie Parker's innovative approach.

@@DorianPaige00 Great record, Hawk almost playing out and Sonny blowing like mad. Great meeting of the minds. Heart attack ? He probably loved it. One of many important jazz records on RCA.
