Absolutely agree with you. And the announcers messed THAT up too! It wasn't Ngoni who caught the stick, it was the OTHER kid who was trying to hand it off to him. That kid didn't drop the stick, he placed it right into Ngoni's hand! Ngoni seemed to have "hard hands" and lost it, then the kid caught it falling out of the air, and put it back! Ngoni just made sure not to cross the line! Amazing!

@dls2779 Look at the video again, paying close attention to Makusha's position relative to Texas in lane 8. At the instant Florida State fumbled the baton, Makusha was a meter behind Texas's second leg. By the time he recovered the baton and got going again, he was only 3 meters behind the Texas runner, not eleven meters.

It's technically possible that #3--if he's absolutely next to the lane line--runs a few inches less, but that's all. The one who runs the longest with the baton is the leadoff (assuming the pass is made toward the end of the zone); the person who has it the least is the anchor. Sometimes I've put the slowest of the four on anchor!

By the way, his name is Brandon Byram, and he is awesome. He was even wise enough to take some time off from track, get his plan together, train/live overseas (Sweden?), and is now running even faster than before. He has Twitter & FB pages. To me, white sprinters like Brandon and Christophe Lemaître are young men who don't let you folks with racist perspectives get them down. They go out there and run fast because they know they're just as capable as the "black people" you all cite.

@dls2779 This year's FSU team is a great team and certainly they're capable of running sub-38, but they weren't going to do it with those passes. When TCU set the record, they stretched the zone to the breaking point, meaning that they were on the edge of being out the zone on all three passes. FSU's passing was much too conservative to break the record in this race. The fact that they could fumble with the baton for so long and still be in the zone tells you how conservative the first pass was.

@dls2779 The difference between 9.89 and 10.1 is not 10 meters, it's more like 2 to 2.5 meters. When LSU had Trindon Holliday (10.0) and Richard Thompson (9.89), they ran 38.42 on that same track. That's likely the kind of time Florida State would have run without that hiccup. Forget this 37.xx nonsense.

@dls2779 You don't know what you're talking about. In 2008, Thompson ran 10.00 at the Texas Relays, 9.93 at SEC's and 9.97 at regionals. After that he also ran a couple of sub-10's in Europe before he arrived in Beijing. And I don't know why you're bringing up Charles Clark. This is 2011, not 2009. There's a thread about the NCAA 4x100 on Track & Field News message board (Current Events, page 4). Go post your theory there and watch how folks react to it. Be prepared to get your feelings hurt.

What does her getting paid have to do with people liking or disliking her? She will always have that job because she is female and a minority. Its called job parity, like it or not. Businesses have to in good faith try to fill positions with ample number of minorities and women. They have to meet certain EOE standards. @dls2779 Dix has proven his greatness and in retrospect, Holliday was only better than him indoors at 60 meters. I don't know about you, but I had no idea that he was ready to run 9.93 in the 2007 100 final. By the way, if you want to see what type of passing it takes to break the record, check out the first exchange between Walter Davis and Robert Parham in the 2002 NCAA 4x100 relay. Every member of that team was 10.3 or slower but they still managed to run 38.32.

Also conditions factor in as well! The meet was in New York, so you never know! Along with that, that time would have gotten third in the olympics that year! Crazy huh?

@dls2779 With all due respect, if you really think Florida State lost 0.8 seconds on that exchange, you're delusional. 0.8 seconds is almost 10 meters and Makusha didn't lose that much ground. At the most, they lost 0.2 seconds on that exchange, about the same amount that LSU's women lost on their bad exchange.

It’s more talked about internationally. I remember one day I was listening to bbc radio after the world championships of athletics and they talked about it twice after the event that day. They had athlete interview recorded. They also talked about the medal winners, place the national team got and surprises. 4x400 relay was always exciting to me. Also the fashion with those shades. But yeah true in the U.S most ppl that go are family, fans of track and maybe a few other supporters of that school.
