Ukrainian Bohdan Bondarenko and Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim became the first high-jumpers in two decades to clear 2.42m (7'11.25") at the 2014 Adidas Grand Prix, establishing themselves as the second best high jumpers of all times behind only Javier Sotomayor. The two of them also had two good attempts each at 2.46 (8'0.75").

I was there with my family on a trip to NYC. The atmosphere was amazing. The crowd was knowledgeable and knew they were watching something that had never been seen ... two guys jumping 2.42m in the same competition!! Barshim had one really great attempt at 2.46m. I think it might be the closest attempt we will ever see. Then in 30 or 40 years we will look back and realize how incredible this day was really appreciate that the WR is hardly even human!

Men's high jump is fascinating, not only because it's the closest we see to humans flighing unaided but because as each jumper reaches the edge of their physical capacity mental strength / confidence becomes paramount and when this fails to materialise we witness abysmal attempts. Nevertheless, a truly great comp.
