Trained alongside Dominic (15 y/o in video) when he was 12-13 years old - I was in an older group. Off the chart talent!

Growing up hearing about Tray Tintinger jumping in my home town and breaking the world record for his age is awesome.

I jumped 8 and a half feet in the standing broad jump when I was 12. I won the standing broad jump every single time I competed in it. The biggest victory was a Hershey Nationals contested on Randall's Island, then Downing Stadium. I didn't realize it was a Nationals. Even when I read it in the paper I thought the paper was wrong. It seemed like a regular meet to me. My youngest son also won gold at a Hershey Nationals about 35 years later, in the Shot Put. I know. I'm like the typical KZbin commentator that thinks they are better than the folks in the video. You'll just have to accept it for what it is. I either post an annoying KZbin comment or just do nothing with the memory. My best event in college ended up being Shot Put. I actually beat future Olympic Champion Adam Nelson in college. But I was older, and it wasn't long before he surpassed me, maybe a week. I'm pretty sure he stole my warm-up routine. In college I was the only one running sprints and doing high steps and high jumps and then timing entering the ring perfectly with that super charged adrenaline. Then in the pros, Nelson was the only one doing it. It's the only chance you have in the shot put when significantly shorter and lighter than everyone else. I also was an Empire State Games teammate of Andy Bloom, an NCAA Champion in both the Shot and Disc. In high school, when I was a Freshman, there was a Senior that was a 6'7" Shot Putter that held the school record, V. Insingo. Then when I was a Senior in high school there was a Freshman that would break that record and then go on to be a professional football player, E. Diaz. I don't think I really was meant to be a Shot Putter. But with so many positive examples of Shot Putters all around me, I was just kind of following behind a particularly fast herd. Now I watch my kids meets and think what I threw back then, to get 4ths and 5ths would be double golds today. But sports isn't everything. I'm happy with what I did and how everything worked out. You don't have to be an elite record holder to enjoy training and competing. Just go for your own PRs each time.

Appreciate the comment man, awesome to insight like this and glad you could throw the memories somewhere! It's surprising what influence you end up having on people with them knowing. I agree, besting yourself and enjoying training is far more important than the records.

Barshim should have got the record years ago now, I saw him clear 2.43 by at least 5 cm at one event. Sadly he only got bronze in Budapest. Sotomayor was 6'8" so he has the height barshim is only 6'3" and has way more spring.

High jumpers are honestly really unique athletes. Sotomayor is 6’4 but to get h is torso to 8ft he has s to have a one foot jump vertical of 58 inches, thats two inches shy of 5 feet 4’10”. For context on a 10ft NBA rim his chest or closer to his belly could touch the rim. That is a greater jumping ability than Lebron James, Michael Jordan, or Vince Carter. Barshim is 6’2 but he scissor kicked 7’0, he could easily get his head above the rim
