Sweet Donna Lee. The horn is fascinating and reflects the love and dedication Jason has for building.

This is a great session. I love when you talk about a horn like this: giving what you like and don't like. I don't get to try horns out and this type of session is very good for me. Thanks for a great tour.

I used to own a Summit. I find Jason to be a genius, but customer service is not good. The Horn was great, but it was difficult to get orders fulfilled quickly. If you are a tinkerer, you will have fun with this horn. I am very close to pulling the trigger on the Coppernicus. I wish I could play test it

I really like that 2nd bell. The tone quality warmed up quite a bit and gave it more character. You make every horn you play sound great, but you can still hear the different characteristics between them. Not gonna lie, I would love to have that receiver setup on my horn.

Trent, love your videos since you present an astonishing array of horns that make us mortals drool with desire to own, or at least try them all. Interesting to learn of the somewhat hostile sentiments between different makers. It’s too bad that a more tolerant attitude doesn’t exist since everybody has something positive to bring to the horn table, as it were.

Another classic Trent clip. 💯

Awesome playing, as always. The horn has a very distinct core, part of what you described as "static" for most all high end trumpets. I would think of it as definite and recognizable personality, but you're right. Also, the second bell is darker, but not drastically. You couldn't do a better or more honest review than this.

Most people know there's no love lost between Jason and myself. That being said I respect his vision and think this is a very cool instrument. I tried to be as honest and transparent as I could.

I’ve learned that 2.5lbs is where I like to stay. I’ve played a horn that was 3.5lbs (Balanced Ballad) and while it sounded great, I got tired of holding it after about 20-30 minutes into the day.

No BS trent , you really sounded good on this one. But yeah, I won't use it either seems to be too heavy for me.

Seems a lot of messing around to get the perfect 'sound' that just ends up sounding like playing in a cardboard to box 'dead' I'm not sure how this would fit in a section but I guess as a solo jazz artist it could work 🤔

Don’t sugarcoat it Trent! Thanks for a rare review. No kidding, I once suggested to Jason Harrelson that he send all his horns to you to review. His videos are unwatchable. He brags (and I’m sure he’s deservedly proud of what he’s accomplished), but it gets annoying. And he barely plays the horns during his videos! And he doesn’t frankly sound very good when he does play (he told me he spends all his time on his business and does not practice as much these days). I would much rather hear you play anything, Trent, than listen to Jason brag and put down others and play mediocre stuff on a Harrelson.
@dcentral2 жыл бұрын
You’re right. Jason sounds terrible playing his horns, it’s like a fifth grader trying to hit notes consistently. It’s sad that we rarely hear competent players on Harrelson horns.
@FandenFaen Жыл бұрын
Yes, he sucks. There are good players that play his trumpets though. @@dcentral

I have read the comments relating Harrelson terrible playing abilities, the bragging and poor customer service. I applaud that Trent is honest and brings good balance on his review. Harrelson talks about his products in the best possible light. He is very different than the guy of Lotus, who sounds like a cheerleader as other players test his trumpets. Go watch, the videos are out there. In fact trumpet players like Arturo Sandoval owned and used a Harrelson.... I didn’t find that in his promos. My point: I feel some bashing in some comments. Unnecessary and uncalled IMO.

Creamy sounding! Great review! But I need a raspy sound! Is there any trumpet you can recommend? I currently play a '69 Conn Victor.

Something I've noticed about Jason's opinions about his horns: he never talks about his sound signature. He only focuses on how easy his horns are to play. Like, we get it. Your horns are efficient. But that is only one aspect of choosing a horn. Now for the stuff that actually matters: Can they be played in a section? Can they blend? How does the sound change in color? Even so, I've never seen anyone hold on to their Harrelson trumpet for the long term. And we get it. You like to CNC parts and talk about standing waves, but the valve blocks and bells (the hardest parts of a horn to make) are made by CarolBrass and you get those for cheap...yet you still want to charge $10k+ for all the ornaments. But the real real reason I will never buy a Harrelson Trumpet is that Jason constantly rags on trumpet makers that build their horns with their hands. Jason can't even fabricate a valve block or hammer out a bell, but he'll sure as hell talk shit about everyone else that can. But hey, at least he knows how to hit copy and paste in SolidWorks.
