Fun ideas to explore: Build a minor6 chord on each diminished notes. In C : Dm6 = Bm7b5= 6onthe5 (heptatonic 7th degree) Fm6 = minor iV (like in the video) Abm6 = makes a kind of tritone sub Bm6= ugly duckling These 4 m6 chords have different roles in C’s family members. For example Dm6 is the miV of A

Thank you for this! On a C major chord, is it ultimately a matter of preference on which 'sixth' chord to use? Between Cmaj6 and Gmaj6. And you can freely switch between the two systems?
@JazzSkills2 жыл бұрын
I normally use the C6dim but sometimes, the G6dim works really well, especially when the 7th of C is in the melody. Hope this helps! Shan
@daophampiano Жыл бұрын
@@JazzSkills Many thanks for the reply! One quick clarification, if you use G6dim on a C major seventh, would you also use its move notes (F# A C Eb) to harmonize the melodies that are on the CM7? Or would you still use C6's move notes (B D F Ab). For example, if the melody goes B-A on CM7, would you use G6 to F# diminished? Or B diminished to C6?

Awesome! Im learning about his method and its great. Do you go over things like the diminished chords and their 4 related dominants, raising or lowering diminished notes, etc on your site?

Great that you're learning these methods. They really do free you up to sound authentic. Yes, I certainly cover all of that and much more on Jazz Skills!
