Stems are so underrated...I use a REV-7 and I've switched to Virtual DJ because their Stems 2.0 blows everything else out of the water!! It frustrates me that so many DJs aren't even interested in Stems mixing (or even harmonic mixing) but, for me, it really elevates my mixes to another level.
@digitaldjtips Жыл бұрын
Agreed, it's an amazing feature. we have a course coming on creative use of stems...

I just saw this but I have a fourth tip. A strong Hip Hop drum beat under a serious ballad's vocals will make a new genre. It's like "Love Hop or Soft Hop." It's just a lot of fun.

7:03-7:40 I love doing this too in VirtualDJ. I like to DJ too. One example I did was Chingy's "Right Thurr" with Toni Braxton's "You Makin' Me High." I took out Toni's vocals and kept the beat and melody and matched it with Chingy's Right Thurr. It sounds really nice together. Another example I did was with Usher "Yeah" mixed with Houston's "I Like That."

Im from the old school and remember wishing I had the accapella or instrumentals of a song. Stems software is a game changer. Im now only limited to my music vocabulary and imagination. Stem software included in the dj program software is endgame in my opinion. wonderful interview! Now I have to wait for rekord box to incorporate stems which would curb my learning curve or just make the switch to Virtual Dj and learn its platform, but at least now I have choices!

Wow amazing stuff. I'm learning so much these last few weeks It looks like stems are coming back. I wonder if Traktor is able to catch up. I remember a video in 2015, where one dj said, Traktors stems was ahead of time. And since 2,3 years suddenly other softwares are integrating it.
@OremmGames Жыл бұрын
The main thing that held NI's STEM.m4a format back was the fact that the label/artist had to separate the stems out and provide 2 different versions of the recording to retailers. These "AI" driven end-user separations will of course never be as clean as ones pressed from the studio, but the fact that we can now do it for every track already in our collections more than makes up for it!

Hi Jeff, Phil. Many thanks for this interview. I use Neural Mix for a couple of months now, and so it is the best sound isolator so far. Better than RX8 or Spectra Layers. VDJ2021 is doing a great job as well, but not as fast and user friendly as Neual Mix is. What I do like about VDJ2021 is that you can use it to prototype: What different song isolated stems fit together?
@digitaldjtips4 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly. you can do the same in Algoriddim's djay Pro AI, of course.

@digitaldjtips4 жыл бұрын
djay Pro AI and Virtual DJ both do essentially the same job when it comes to stems. Your decision should more be swayed by what DJ platform you'd like to use out of the two. That said, Neural Mix Pro is something different - it is not DJ software, rather it extracts stems ahead of time. It has the edge on its most well-known competitor (Xtrax Stems) because of its pitch, tempo and loop functions, and its rich export options.

Yes, it does a good job, but it is slow. Sometime too sharp and not as user friendly as Neural Mix. However Neural Mix only runs on MacOS. You can also have a look at VDJ2021, which is free of charge as long as you use it without a controller. With VDJ2021, the trick is to play with the STEM buttons and RECORD the output to a file. It take more time than Neural Mix Pro. For prototyping VDJ2021 is handy
